Like all telcos, VIVIFI also offers a pay-as-you-go roaming with partner telcos across the world. This means that whenever your overseas in a participating country, you’ll be able to use your phone on pay-as-you-go rates for calls, texts and data — assuming that you did not activate any roaming plans.

Do take note that the charges for pay-as-you-go are steep, and you may rack up hundreds of dollars on your mobile bill if you’re not careful. For more affordable talktime and SMS rates, you’re probably better off picking up a local or travel SIM at your travel destination instead of using VIVIFI Connect (IDD 001 and IDD 019) or VIVIFI Go.

Are there any fees to take note of?

  • Plan change fee. Depending on the plan you’re currently on and the one you’re switching to, you may be charged a fee. For example, it’ll cost $21.40 if you change from Plus to Lite or Share to Lite/Plus plans.
  • Voluntary suspension. If you need to put a pause on your current plan (up to 12 months), you’ll be charged a suspension monthly recurring fee as follows:
    • VIVIFI Share (Me): $10.80/month
    • VIVIFI Share (Us): Full monthly subscription fee
    • VIVIFI Lite: Full monthly subscription fee

What are the pros and cons of VIVIFI plans?

Before signing up for a VIVIFI plan, take a look at the following to determine if its right for you:

Pros

  • No contract. You may choose to cancel the plan at any time without incurring any extra fees
  • Shareable mobile plan. VIVIFI Share is a one-of-a-kind family sharing plan to help users maximise their plans and avoid data wastage
  • Free perks with every plan. Instead of charging a fee for incoming calls, SMS and caller ID service, VIVIFI provides it for free
  • Fast and simple registration. The entire process from registration to porting your number over to SIM delivery is quick and hassle-free
  • Highly customisable. VIVIFI offers a wide range of add-on bundles if you need to upsize your base plan
  • User-friendly app. It helps to track usage, allows you to conveniently buy extra data, talk-time or roaming packages as and when you need and also offers help through their chat service.

Cons

  • Does not operate on its own infrastructure. If Singtel encounters any network or coverage issues, VIVIFI will subject to the same problems since it is leasing Singtel’s mobile network infrastructure
  • No mobile app. You’ll need to log onto your account from VIVIFI’s website to manage your plans. VIVIFI does not have a mobile app that allows you to track live usage or manage your account on-the-go.
  • No telephone/live chat support. VIVIFI does not have any call centres, so the only customer support channels available is through email.

Our verdict

VIVIFI mobile plans are mostly catered to low to average data users, offering a 180GB sharable mobile plan and smaller 6GB or 10GB individual plans.

So if you and your family (especially those with young children or seniors) don’t typically use that much per month, the VIVIFI Share plan is an ideal option to consider as you’d most likely to save more from a shared mobile plan compared to having individual plans that tend to cost between $20 to $30 per month. It is also the only MVNO offering affordable tiered rates if you exceed your data, talktime and SMS limits.

Before applying for a VIVIFI mobile plan, make sure to compare other similar offerings in the market so that you’d find the right deal that matches your needs and budget.
