Depending on your needs, you may opt for either single or annual coverage:

  • Single trip coverage. This type of Travel Insurance covers you for one journey to your selected geographical area, up to a maximum of 180 days.
  • Annual multi-trip coverage. Covers all journeys made during the year to your selected geographical area, up to a maximum of 90 days per journey. Only Silver and Gold plans are available for annual coverage.

Each plan is offered with the following options:

  • Individual plan. Provides cover for you and the persons travelling with you as covered in your certificate of insurance.
  • Family plan. Covers two adults and any number of dependents of either of the two adults that depart from and return to Singapore together. All three levels of cover are available for the family plan.

What does an Allianz Travel policy cover?

Here are some common situations Allianz Travel covers if your policy contains the benefit mentioned:

  • You get into an accident overseas and require emergency medical attention. Emergency medical covers at least $400,000 for the cheapest plan and without limits for the top tier plan. It covers all eligible medical expenses overseas, such as transportation to the hospital, medical bills and even the cost of a family member or relative to be by your side.
  • You get robbed of your jewellery. Allianz Travel will pay you for loss of jewellery due to robbery or theft during your overseas trip.
  • You get into an automobile accident to the rental vehicle you have hired. If you have to claim on a rental vehicle without insurance, you could be facing out-of-pocket expenses that could go up to tens of thousands depending on the severity of the damage. The rental car excess benefit for the Bronze, Silver and Gold plans are $150, $500 and $750 respectively.
  • You have to undergo emergency surgery a week before your trip. If it’s for a good reason, you can cancel your whole trip and get up to $25,000 in compensation for any unrecoverable loss of cancellation fees, travel deposits and accommodation arrangements that you have paid in advance.
  • You arrive at your destination, your luggage doesn’t. You will be compensated for each full, consecutive 6-hour luggage delay caused by the carrier. However, make sure to report the delay within 24 hours to an appropriate authority and keep a copy of the written statement.
  • You pass away on your trip. In the event of your death during your journey, the reasonable costs of either an overseas funeral, cremation or repatriation of your remains back to your home country will be covered.

What doesn’t my policy cover?

There are a number of reasons Allianz Travel could deny your claim:

  • You have a pre-existing condition that Allianz Travel said it wouldn’t cover.
  • Your doctor strongly advised against travelling, but you went anyway.
  • You’re trying to claim for treatments that can reasonably be delayed until your return to Singapore.
  • You’ve been intoxicated or breaking the law when the incident happened.
  • You lose your luggage due to negligence.
  • Your trip is cancelled without reason.
  • You travel somewhere else outside the geographical area you’ve selected.
  • Your claim arises from or is in any way related to mental or nervous conditions.

Pros and cons of Allianz Travel insurance

Benefits

  • Full terrorism cover. You’ll be covered against unexpected acts of terrorism whilst you are travelling.
  • Three levels of cover. Depending on your travel insurance needs, you’ll have three different covers to choose from. There are plans for single travellers, families and frequent flyers.
  • Unlimited overseas medical coverage. If you purchase the gold plan, you don’t have to worry about exceeding a maximum cap on your emergency hospital, medical or dental expenses.
  • Automatic policy extension. Your period of cover will automatically extend for up to a maximum 30 days from the date of expiry of the policy free-of-charge if your return to Singapore is delayed by a claimable event.
  • 24-hour emergency assistance. Regardless of where you’re travelling, Allianz Travel has a support team working round the clock to handle your policy purchase, manage your claim and oversee any emergency medical assistance.

Drawbacks

  • Low coverage for personal accident and death. Compared to other insurers, Allianz Travel offers very little in the way of personal accident or death benefits. You (or your beneficiaries) will only be compensated up to $100,000 in the event of such incidents.
  • No extreme sports coverage. If you want to participate in fun and exciting activities, like mountaineering, skiing, sailing, skydiving, snorkelling or rock climbing, know that Allianz Travel does not cover these activities.
  • No cover for working overseas. Allianz Travel will not cover you for incidents that occur while working overseas, although you may be entitled to some benefits under the annual multi-trip plan.
