What is MSIG TravelEasy?

MSIG TravelEasy is a general travel policy that offers 3 levels of cover (Standard, Elite and Premier). While each policy option comes with varying coverage and claim payouts, they are designed to protect you against unexpected events – be it minor inconveniences or major emergencies – when you’re abroad.

Some of its common features include compensation for trip cancellation, baggage loss, personal accidents and more. With MSIG’s higher-end options (Elite and Premier), you’d also be covered for adventurous activities such as bungee jumping and scuba diving.

Declare any pre-existing medical conditions

A pre-existing condition refers to an injury, illness or medical condition that you’re aware of and/or are receiving treatment for prior to your trip.

These are typically excluded by standard travel insurance policies and failing to declare them will run the risk of invalidating any claims related to it.

I have a pre-existing medical condition. What are my options?

Fret not! MSIG offers specialised extended coverage for travellers with stable and controlled pre-existing conditions – the MSIG TravelEasy Pre-Ex, which offers protection for expensive overseas hospitalisation and evacuation costs should you become critically ill during your trip.

Will I be entitled to the same level of benefits as MSIG TravelEasy with MSIG TravelEasy Pre-Ex?

The MSIG TravelEasy Pre-Ex comes with the same range of benefits and plans as MSIG TravelEasy – Standard, Elite and Premier. The only thing to note besides the coverage for pre-existing medical conditions is its premium cost. See the premium rates table for more details.

Examples of common pre-existing medical conditions:

  • Asthma
  • Eczema
  • Cancer
  • Diabetes
  • Epilepsy
  • Heart conditions
  • High blood pressure
  • Gastrointestinal conditions

What are the other MSIG travel insurance options available?

In addition to its individual cover, MSIG also offers bundled travel insurance for families and groups at varying premium rates:

Family cover

Protect up to 7 family members (which includes you, your legal spouse and any number of your legal children) when travelling together.

For the family annual policy, those insured need not travel together on a trip. However, children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian for any trip. Also, do note that individual cover limits for children tend to be lower than for adults.

Group cover

Protects 2 or more individuals (friends, students or relatives) travelling together as a group on the same journey and on the same plan. The group cover is available for single-trip plans only.

Premium rates

The cost of any type of travel insurance policy depends on how much coverage you want, destination and trip duration.

What won’t be covered?

With any type of insurance, there’ll always be a set of standard exclusions, along with restrictions that come with the policy you chose. Make sure to read the full list of exclusions and conditions stated in your policy document to avoid any nasty surprises when making a claim.

An MSIG travel insurance policy won’t typically cover you for:

  • Travel to a war zone
  • Claims for terminal illness
  • Mental health disorders
  • Damage or breakage of sports equipment while in use
  • Accidents or inconveniences resulting from illegal acts
  • Claims arising from the influence of alcohol or non-prescription drugs
  • Loss or damaged belongings due to negligence
  • Undeclared pre-existing conditions
  • Confiscated items by customs officials
  • Pregnancy-related costs
  • Any claims if you travelled specifically for medical purposes, such as cosmetic surgery
  • Unnecessary dental expenses
  • Any kind of false, exaggerated or inaccurate claim

    Making a claim

MSIG makes it easy to file a claim on your travel insurance. You can complete the process online – including via your mobile phone – on their website. After which, you may download a copy of the submitted claim form, or request for the hard copy to be sent to you.

After you’ve filed your claim, MSIG aims to settle it within 3 weeks of receiving all the relevant documents.

    Evidence and documentation required

To make a claim, you’ll be required to submit evidence and all relevant documents related to the incident. These may be:

    • Property loss due to theft. Make a police report within 24 hours at the place of loss. Be sure to request a copy of the report for your claim submission.
    • Property loss/damage while in the custody of a transport provider. Inform the airline/cruise/train/bus operator and request for a Property Loss/Damage Irregularity Report. Take photographs of the damaged items for claim submission and retain the items for inspection (if applicable).
    • Property damage or third party bodily injury. Note down the particulars of the third party, details of the incident and extent of claim. Do not admit liability, settle or negotiate a settlement without the insurer’s approval.

    About MSIG

With a presence in Singapore for over 100 years, MSIG is a well-trusted brand in Singapore and one of Asia’s leading general insurers. The brand is one of the few foreign‑based general insurers that offer a wide range of personal and commercial insurance solutions.

MSIG Insurance (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of MSI and a member of the MS&AD Insurance Group.

    Bottom line

Overall, MSIG TravelEasy offers flexible options to meet different needs and budgets. Its Standard plan may be ideal for short trips to neighbouring countries, but do bear in mind that some benefits are fairly low (e.g. $3,000 cover limit for personal possessions) and limited, with no lifestyle cover at all.

If you’re looking to participate in extreme sporting activities and golfing, MSIG’s TravelEasy Elite and Premier plans would be more likely to meet your needs. Even if you’re forced to miss a concert due to unforeseen circumstances, these 2 higher-end options will even offer up to $500 back for your unused entertainment tickets.

Before applying, always compare other travel insurance policies available in the market and choose the right cover for your trip.
