Optional add-on protection

If you’re worried about facing potential lawsuits and prefer extra liability protection, MSIG also offers three optional financial protection that you can add to your policy:

  • Waiver of counter indemnity for Maid Insurance Guarantee Bond to MOM. This cover will relieve your liability in the event whereby the Ministry of Manpower makes a payment demand for the Letter of Guarantee. The claim will be subject to a $250 excess.
  • Employer’s liability. With this cover, you’ll be indemnified against any compensation arising from injury or illness claims from your maid. Choose from three levels of increased coverage: $300,000, $500,000 and $1 million.

Covid-19 cover for foreign domestic workers

With effect from 25 March 2022, the Ministry of Manpower states that all fully vaccinated long-term pass (LTP) holders (including foreign domestic workers) returning to or entering Singapore under the General Travel Category border measures will have their Covid-19 treatment costs covered by the Government. It is no longer mandatory for employers to purchase Covid-19 travel insurance.

If you’ve purchased the Covid-19 cover that starts on 25 March or later, you can contact the insurer at the ‘Go to site’ link above for more information on a premium refund.

Supporting documents

Be sure to provide the following along with your claim form, if applicable:

    Bottom line

Overall, MSIG MaidPlus is comprehensive and value for money. Although its premium rates aren’t the lowest in the market, the Standard plan is one of the cheaper options on the market. Its benefit limits are also consistently above average, be it hospitalisation expenses or add-on coverage.

However, MSIG MaidPlus does come with few drawbacks. For instance, it does not offer cashless outpatient medical expenses (which means you’d need to fork out the money for these payments and get a reimbursement when the claim is approved) and home contents cover (for loss or damage of your home contents in the case of theft by your maid, fire and burglary). Also, MSIG MaidPlus is only available in 26-months plan, so it’ll not suit your needs if you’re only looking to hire a domestic helper for a year.

Maid insurance is offered by many insurers in Singapore, so be sure to compare it with other industry offerings to find a policy that best fits your budget and needs.
