Other benefits of getting maid insurance with Income

With Income, you can customise your cover with a number of optional add-ons:

  • Ministry of Manpower (MOM) security bond protector. This will limit your liability of $5,000 under the security bond under MOM to only $250, if you did not cause the breach of the bond.
  • Hospital and surgical expenses cover booster. Get an add-on worth up to $100,000 per year so that you are even more prepared against the unexpected.
  • Work permit renewal and insurance. Income will take care of your worker’s paperwork and provides a courier service which delivers the documents to your door.
  • Security bond to the Philippines embassy. This benefit can be useful if you are employing a new helper from the Philippines, or your helper is returning to the Philippines on home leave.

Covid-19 cover for foreign domestic workers

Income has added a Covid-19 cover for all new policies from 28 December 2020. The cover pays for hospitalisation and treatment costs in restructured hospitals and community care facilities of up to $30,000 per incident if your domestic helper is diagnosed with COVID-19 within 14 days of entry or re-entry to Singapore.

However, note that with effect from 25 March 2022, the Ministry of Manpower states that all fully vaccinated long-term pass (LTP) holders (including foreign domestic workers) returning to or entering Singapore under the General Travel Category border measures will have their Covid-19 treatment costs covered by the Government. It is no longer mandatory for employers to purchase Covid-19 travel insurance.

What won’t be covered?

Each maid insurance policy you compare will have different types of cover included. Income’s three policies will also differ; for example, its Basic plan won’t cover you for the unexpected death of your maid. Income doesn’t typically cover its customers for:

  • Replacement maid. If you’re forced to hire another worker, some policies will pay agency fees to find them for you.
  • Critical illness. Some plans will provide cover if case your maid’s diagnosed with or suffers a serious illness.
  • Theft cover to protect your family’s belongings.
  • Cover for your maid’s belongings.

There are also some general exclusions to be aware of. Claims linked to the following events will be refused:

  • Breach of work permit
  • Consequences of war, riot, terrorism or revolution
  • Illegal acts
  • Intoxication by alcohol or drugs
  • Making a claim you know to be false or exaggerated in any way
  • Non-emergency dental care (unless explicitly stated otherwise)
  • Pregnancy, childbirth or abortions
  • Pre-existing medical conditions
  • Psychiatric care (unless explicitly stated otherwise)
  • Sexually transmitted infections
