More on Income car insurance policies

Income has two types of comprehensive car insurance that can protect you in the case of unexpected events, including major accidents. These policies are Drivo Premium and Drivo Classic.

Drivo Premium

If you’re willing to spend a little more on your car insurance to enjoy greater flexibility, Drivo Premium could be the policy for you. It lets you take your car to your preferred workshop for repairs or maintenance. On top of this, the policy includes the following benefits:

  • Unlimited liability for death or injury caused to third parties
  • Cover for loss or damage to your vehicle, including from accidents, fire or theft
  • Up to $5 million in damage caused to third party property
  • Up to $50,000 in personal accident benefits
  • Up to $1,000 in medical expenses
  • Unlimited windscreen cover
  • Up to $500 in costs for towing of your vehicle.

Drivo Classic

If you’re happy for your vehicle to be repaired at an Income-approved workshop, then the Drivo Classic policy could meet your needs. This policy includes the following benefits:

  • Unlimited liability for death or injury caused to third parties
  • Cover for loss or damage to your vehicle, including from accidents, fire or theft
  • Up to $5 million in damage caused to third party property
  • Up to $50,000 in personal accident benefits
  • Up to $1,000 in medical expenses
  • Unlimited windscreen cover
  • Up to $500 in costs for towing of your vehicle.

More benefits of choosing Income

Income offers some useful benefits when you sign up for its car insurance. These include:

  • Orange Force. Get roadside assistance from this insurer’s 24/7 accident response team anywhere in Singapore.
Motor Service Centre. Incomes’ team of experts can help you with accident reporting and help to ensure that your vehicle’s repairs are completed to a high standard.
  • Orange Eye. This mobile app lets drivers capture footage that can be easily submitted for insurance claims. You can also submit an accident report directly through the app at any time.

You can also enhance your cover with one or more of the following add-ons to your policy:

  • NCD Protector. You can add on this benefit to maintain your no claim discount in the event that you need to make a claim. This applies only to policyholders who have at least a 30% no claim discount.
  • Daily transport allowance. This can be really useful if you can’t use your car during the repair process. You’ll be paid $50 a day, from the first day of repairs for up to seven days.
  • Excess waiver cover. By paying for this add-on, you won’t need to spend a dollar in excess payments when making a claim.

How much excess will I pay when I make a claim?

When you take out a comprehensive policy with Income, you’ll have to pay a policy excess of $600 (unless you choose the Drivo Prestige Plan, in which case it costs $5,000). However, with this insurer, you can choose an excess waiver as an add-on (see below). Both the Drivo Classic and Drivo Premium have a windscreen excess of $100. There may be additional excesses to pay. For example, if your vehicle is driven by an unnamed driver, the following excess will apply on claims:

  • $2,500 if the driver is under 27 years old, or has less than 1 year of driving experience
  • $500 if the driver is 27 years old or older and has 1 or more years’ driving experience.

      Bottom line

Income is a long-established provider of car insurance and has a strong range of policies to choose from. Policyholders can also take advantage of special offers and rewards. However, being in a competitive market, it is possible that you may find a better deal elsewhere.

It’s always good to take your time comparing the different options so that you can find the right option to suit your needs and budget.

      Questions you may still have

      Who is Income?

Income, which was established in 1970, operates as a co-operative under the full name of Insurance Co-operative Commonwealth Enterprise Ltd. The organisation has a wide range of insurance products including life, business and motor insurance among others.
How can I save on my Income car insurance policy?

Here are two quick ways you can save on your policy with Income:

      • Look into Dual Year policies. Insurers such as Aviva have started to offer drivers two-year policies, meaning you could lock-in a competitive rate for 24 months.
      • Compare deals. It’s not always true that comprehensive policies are the most expensive option when it comes to car insurance. So, it’s always good to compare a range of car insurance policies before finding the right one for you.

What’s policy exclusions should I be aware of?

All insurers will state exclusions in their policies that they won’t accept claims for. Income will refuse claims relating to:

        • Uninsured drivers
        • Drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol
        • Unregistered vehicles
        • Driving with unapproved vehicle modifications
        • Acts of terrorism
        • Drivers who exceed the seating capacity of their vehicle.

Read Income’s policy document on their website for a full list of what’s not covered by its car policies.
How do I make a claim with Income?

Income makes it easy to submit claims and to manage your policy through its online self-service portal. Create your me@income account through their website and you’ll be a few clicks away from filing a claim, making payments and managing other policy matters. Alternatively, you can call +65 6788 6616 or visit a branch in-store.

How do I cancel my Income car insurance?

To cancel your policy, call +65 6788 6616 or email csquery@income.com.sg. Or you can visit one of the company’s seven service branches.
