What’s included with a Income home insurance policy?

Income’s comprehensive home insurance plan is called Enhanced Home Insurance. It protects you, your family and your home against a range of unforeseen events. This plan includes:

  • Cover for accidental death or permanent disability following incidents in your home.
  • Home contents – protecting your possessions against loss or damage.
  • Building cover of up to $100,000 for HDB homes (for jumbo flats, the cover amount will be up to $200,000).
  • For private homes, you’ll submit the cover amount through the provider’s website or via a financial planner.
  • Liability cover in case you cause damage to others’ houses.
  • Damages cover for renovations.
  • Complimentary emergency home assistance, 24/7. Get support on emergency plumbing, locksmith, electrician, and pest control works – up to $100 per accident, four times per year.

What other benefits are available?

The following benefits are also included as standard on a home insurance policy with Income:

  • Removal of debris.
  • Loss of or damage to contents while you’re temporarily moved away from your home
  • Temporary cover for new improvements
  • Professional fees
  • Stress payment of $300
  • Up to $350 a day in extra hotel expenses
  • Emergency cash allowance of $500
  • $500 of cover for replacing locks and keys
  • Up to $500 in cover for loss of or damage to contents belonging to your maid
  • $500 in cover for loss of domestic pet
  • Standard conservancy charges of $1,000
  • Deterioration of food in your refrigerator worth $500
  • Up to $1,000 in cover for accidental breakage of mirrors and fixed glass
  • Up to $1,000 of protection against unauthorised transactions on your stolen debit or credit card
  • Up to $1000 of medical expenses for injury due to an insured event
  • Up to $50,000 in family personal accident cover
  • Family worldwide liability of $500,000

Some of these benefits are flexible: by using them, it’ll take up a percentage of your total benefit limit for your building/ renovation or contents cover. Always check your policy wording with care so that you know what you’ll be able to claim for and what you won’t.

What isn’t covered by my home insurance?

Like with any insurance policy, Income’s home cover has a list of common policy exclusions. You may not be able to make a claim for:

  • Damage caused by pets
  • Wear and tear
  • Unexplained or mysterious loss
  • Faulty maintenance work
  • Electric or mechanical breakdown
  • Cigarette burns or scorch marks
  • Many types of accidental damage – you may be able to get this included as an add-on

Read Income’s policy document on its website for a full list of what is excluded by its home insurance policies.

How much does a policy cost?

Income’s Enhanced Home Insurance plan operates a tiered pricing system, meaning your premiums will (partly) be decided through the size of your home. You’ll also have to choose the coverage amount you need for your building/ renovations and contents and these factors will influence the cost of your premium.

Contents insurance policies – which cover your personal possessions and furnishings against theft or damage – vary a lot between providers. So, check the level of cover offered by yours before you look to add extra cover if required.

How much excess will I pay?

Your excess is the contribution you need to pay towards a claim on your home insurance. The amount you’ll have to pay varies depending on the type of claim you make. Before signing up to a policy, make sure you can afford all the up-front costs of any excess.
