What cover options does NTUC Income car insurance offer?

NTUC Income has two core types of comprehensive car insurance which can protect you in the case of unexpected events, including major accidents. These policies are: Drivo Classic and Drivo Premium. These plans both come with lots of features that can bring peace of mind before you get behind the wheel.

Drivo Premium

If you’re willing to spend a little more on your car insurance to enjoy greater flexibility, Drivo Premium could be the policy for you. It lets you take your car to your preferred workshop for repairs or maintenance.

This policy also includes the following benefits:

  • Cover for loss or damage to your vehicle, including from accidents, fire or theft
  • Up to S$500 in costs for towing of your vehicle
  • Up to S$1,000 in medical expenses
  • Up to S$50,000 in personal accident benefits
  • Up to S$5 million in damage caused to third party property
  • Unlimited liability for death or injury caused to third parties
  • Unlimited windscreen cover

Drivo Classic

If you’re happy for your vehicle to be repaired at a NTUC Income-approved workshop, then the Drivo Classic policy could meet your needs.

This policy includes the following benefits:

  • Cover for loss or damage to your vehicle, including from accidents, fire or theft
  • Up to S$500 in costs for towing of your vehicle
  • Up to S$1,000 in medical expenses
  • Up to S$50,000 in personal accident benefits
  • Up to S$5 million in damage caused to third party property
  • Unlimited liability for death or injury caused to third parties
  • Unlimited windscreen cover

If you’re willing to accept more risk when buying your car insurance, NTUC does offer more basic plans which cover third party, fire and theft or third party only. Have a look at NTUC Income’s full range of car insurance products.

What is excluded by NTUC Income?

All insurers will state exclusions in their policies that they won’t accept claims for. NTUC Income will refuse claims relating to:

  • Uninsured drivers
  • Drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol
  • Unregistered vehicles
  • Driving with unapproved vehicle modifications
  • Acts of terrorism
  • Drivers who exceed the seating capacity of the vehicle

Read NTUC Income’s policy document on their website for a full list of what’s not covered by its car policies.

What other car insurance plans are offered by NTUC Income?

This insurer also offers a Prestige Plan, which is a type of cover aimed at those who require cover for high-performance cars. To be eligible you’ll need to be aged 33 or older and have at least 3 years’ driving experience without any accident-related claims. Also, if you’re lucky enough to be the owner of a Porsche, you can buy this plan specially tailored for you. (Some models are excluded, so be sure to check.)

How much excess will I pay?

When you take out a comprehensive policy with NTUC Income, you’ll typically have to pay a policy excess of S$600. However, with this insurer you can choose an excess waiver as an add-on (see below). Both the Drivo Classic and Drivo Premium have a windscreen excess of S$100. There may be additional excesses to pay. For example if your vehicle is driven by an unnamed driver, the following excess will apply on claims:

  • S$2,500 if the driver is under 27 years old, or has less than 1 year of driving experience
  • S$500 if the driver is 27 years old or older and has 1 or more years’ driving experience

How to save on your NTUC Income car insurance policy

  • Install an alarm. Extra security features can reduce your premium.
  • Compare, compare, compare. It’s not always true that comprehensive policies are the most expensive option when it comes to car insurance, so it’s always good to compare many policies before finding the right one for you.

How do I make a claim?

NTUC Income makes it easy to submit claims and to manage your policy through its online self-services portal. Create your me@income account through their website and you’ll be a few clicks away from filing a claim, making payments and managing other policy matters. Alternatively, you can call +65 6788 6616 or visit a branch in-store.

Bottom line

NTUC Income is a long-established provider of car insurance and has a very good range of policies to choose from. Policyholders can also take advantage of special offers and rewards. However, being in a competitive market, it is possible that you may find a better deal elsewhere. For example, a flexible plan with AXA.

It’s always good to take your time comparing the different options so that you can find the right option to suit your needs and budget.
