What policies are available?
MSIG’s most comprehensive plan offers the highest protection against a range of road incidents, and included damages to third party property and for bodily injury to others. It’ll also cover vandalism, while you’ll also be compensated for any loss or damage to your vehicle after an accident, as well as from fire, theft, civil unrest or natural disasters. The reimbursement will be paid up to the market value of the insured vehicle at the time of loss or damage.
The MotorMax plan provides a similar amount of comprehensive cover to MotorMax Plus. However, you’ll have to repair your car at one of MSIG’s authorised workshops. In terms of personal accident benefits, this plan only covers you up to $20,000 compared with the $100,000 offered by the MotorMax Plus plan.
S$10,000 in personal accident cover per passenger, up to legal seating capacity
S$1,000 in medical expenses for policyholder
Up to S$1,000 in medical expenses for each passenger
Unlimited legal liability to third parties for bodily injuries
Up to S$5 million coverage for third party property damage
What won’t be covered?
There are a list of typical exclusions which will apply to your MSIG Car Insurance policy. These exclusions include events such as:
Your car was being driven by an unlicensed driver, or someone whom the insurer has declined to cover
Your car was being driven by someone who was under the influence of alcohol or drugs
Your vehicle was carrying more people, or a larger load than the legal limit
Your car was being driven while in an unsafe or un-roadworthy condition
Your car was being used to carry passengers for business purposes
Your car is being used for purposes of racing
Your vehicle was subjected to a deliberate, intentional, malicious or criminal act by you, anyone person driving your car, or anyone else acting with your consent
It is for any loss of use of your vehicle
It results from the lawful seizure of your vehicle
It is for loss or damage that occurs after an accident, theft or breakdown unless you have taken reasonable steps to protect your vehicle
What excess will I be charged?
An additional Young and/or Inexperienced Driver Excess of $3,000 applies for any person (other than the main Policyholder) making a claim on your vehicle, who is under 27 years old and/or has held a valid driving licence for two years or less.
Check your policy wording carefully so that you are aware of any standard excess payments you’ll need to make, as a contribution towards a claim after an accident or a breakdown.
Making a claim
If you suffer an accident, for insurance purposes you must report it to MSIG and bring your vehicle to an authorised workshop for inspection within 24 hours or by the next working day. To file a claim with MSIG, you’ll need to visit an authorised workshop or IDAC centre – this provider does not let you submit a motor claims form online.
