What policies are available?

Prestige

Aviva’s most comprehensive plan gives the highest level of protection against a range of events including: loss or damage to your vehicle after an accident; fire, theft or natural disasters such as floods or typhoons. It’ll also offer you cover if you cause damage to other people and/or their property and includes legal charges. Also, you’ll have personal accident cover of up to S$100,000.

Standard

This policy also offers comprehensive cover, meaning you’re insured if you lose your vehicle or it’s damaged or destroyed after an accident, fire or theft. Plus, it gives you cover if you cause damage to other people and/or their property and includes legal charges. With this policy you’ll have personal accident cover of up to S$50,000.

Lite

This policy offers comprehensive cover, giving you all except one of the covers listed above. Unlike the Standard or Prestige plan, you won’t have personal accident cover with a Lite policy. So, your family won’t be paid out if you die or suffer permanent disability after an accident.

What add-ons are available with Aviva?

Each policy also lets you add four types of optional cover. This extra cover is usually reflected in a higher premium cost. These cover add-ons are:

  • No claims discount protector – you’ll keep your discount if you submit up to one claim before your policy’s renewal date.
  • Loss of use cover – if your car’s being repaired at a workshop (for up to 10 days), you’ll get a replacement vehicle so you can keep driving.
  • Personal accident cover booster – get up to S$100,000 for you and any additional passenger in your car.
  • Loss of keys – you’ll get cover of up to S$500 in case you need to replace any items affected by your vehicle’s security if you lose your keys.

What won’t be covered?

There are a list of typical exclusions which will apply to your Aviva Car Insurance policy. These include events such as:

  • Your car was being driven by an unlicensed driver, or someone whom the insurer has declined to cover
  • Your car was being driven by someone who was under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • Your vehicle was carrying more people, or a larger load than the legal limit
  • Your car was being driven while in an unsafe or un-roadworthy condition
  • Your car was being used to carry passengers for business purposes
  • Your car is being used for purposes of racing
  • Your vehicle was subjected to a deliberate, intentional, malicious or criminal act by you, anyone person driving your car, or anyone else acting with your consent
  • It is for any loss of use of your vehicle
  • It results from the lawful seizure of your vehicle
  • It is for loss or damage that occurs after an accident, theft or breakdown unless you have taken reasonable steps to protect your vehicle

Making a claim

You’ll need to call Aviva to start the claims process. Their claims lines are open 24/7 and you should call +65 6333 2222.

What excess will I be charged?

An excess is a set amount you have to pay towards a claim you make on your policy. Aviva’s Lite and Standard policies both charge an additional excess of S$2,500 for inexperienced drivers. This provider defines an inexperienced driver as anyone who’s under 25 and/or anyone who’s held a licence for less than two years. If you choose Aviva’s Prestige plan, you won’t have to pay this excess. With the Prestige plan you’ll also avoid having to pay an excess if you need to make a claim for a damaged windscreen. There’s an excess payment of S$100 for Standard or Lite policyholders.

Am I eligible for a car insurance policy?

To be eligible for a car insurance policy with Aviva, you’ll need to meet the following requirements:

  • Aged between 21 and 70 years old
  • Have a minimum of one year’s driving experience
  • Have not been refused car insurance in the past for any reason
  • Have filed a maximum of two claims in the past three years
  • Drive a car that’s less than 15 years old

Also, it is unlikely you’ll be able to get cover if your vehicle’s had any modifications which have not been approved by Land Transport Authority of Singapore.
