The key features of Aviva car insurance

Prestige

Aviva’s Prestige plan includes protection against loss or damage to your vehicle after an accident; fire, theft or natural disasters such as floods or typhoons. It’ll also offer you cover if you cause damage to other people and/or their property and includes unlimited cover for legal charges.

Put simply, Aviva’s most comprehensive plan gives the highest level of protection. The Prestige plan also includes:

  • A new replacement car if your vehicle is destroyed – and it’s less than 24 months old (terms apply)
  • eCall assistance – you can expect super fast service at the scene of a road accident. This service, which is exclusive to Prestige policyholders, automatically contacts Aviva’s claims helpline in the event of an accident. What’s more, your roadside rescue cost is included
  • There’s no additional excess to worry about on claims made on your policy by young and/or inexperienced drivers
  • Towing service included
  • Choose your own workshop for repairs
  • Insurance cover while you drive in West Malaysia and parts of Thailand.
  • It’s possible to save on your policy renewal even after two claims in a year.

Standard

The Standard policy from Aviva also offers comprehensive cover. This insurance also comes with:

  • A new replacement car if your vehicle is destroyed – and it’s less than 12 months old (terms apply)
  • If you choose a workshop for repairs that isn’t Aviva-approved, your policy excess payment will be doubled
  • You’ll face an additional excess of $2,500 for claims by young and/or inexperienced drivers
  • Towing service included
  • Cover while driving in West Malaysia and parts of Thailand
  • It’s possible to save on your policy renewal even after two claims in a year.

Lite

This policy offers the most basic type of comprehensive cover. Unlike the Standard or Prestige plan, you won’t have personal accident cover with a Lite policy. This means your family won’t be paid out if you die or suffer permanent disability after an accident. With Lite, you’ll get:

  • A new replacement car if your vehicle is destroyed – and it’s less than 12 months old (terms apply)
  • You’ll face an additional excess of $2,500 for claims by young and/or inexperienced drivers
  • Repairs at an Aviva-approved workshop only
  • Cover while driving in West Malaysia and parts of Thailand.
  • Towing service included – however, there’s no ride home included from the accident location.

What optional cover is available with Aviva?

Each policy also lets you add four types of optional cover. This extra cover may be reflected in a higher premium cost. These cover add-ons are:

  • NCD Protector. You’ll keep your discount if you submit up to one claim before your policy’s renewal date.
  • Loss of use cover. If your car’s being repaired at a workshop (for up to 10 days), you’ll get a replacement vehicle so you can keep driving.
  • Personal accident cover add-on. Get up to S$100,000 for you and any additional passenger in your car.
  • Loss of keys. You’ll be covered for up to S$500 if you need to replace any items affected by your vehicle’s security if you lose your keys.

With Aviva, you have the flexibility to choose between an Annual Policy and a Dual-Year Plan. With the latter policy, you have the opportunity to lock-in your premium rates for two years.

Am I eligible for a car insurance policy?

To be eligible for a car insurance policy with Aviva, you’ll need to meet the following requirements:

  • Aged between 21 and 70 years old
  • Be residing in Singapore
  • Have a minimum of one year’s driving experience
  • Have not been refused car insurance in the past for any reason
  • Have filed a maximum of two claims in the past three years
  • Drive a car that’s not more than 15 years old.

Also, it is unlikely you’ll be able to get cover if your vehicle’s had any modifications which have not been approved by Land Transport Authority of Singapore.

What is car insurance ‘excess’ and how much will I have to pay?

Car insurance excess is a set amount you have to pay towards a claim you make on your policy. Read more about how car insurance excess works.

Aviva’s Lite and Standard policies both charge an additional excess of S$2,500 for inexperienced drivers. This provider defines an inexperienced driver as anyone who’s under 25 and/or anyone who’s held a licence for less than two years.

By choosing Aviva’s Prestige plan, you won’t have to pay this excess. With the Prestige plan you’ll also avoid having to pay an excess if you need to get your windscreen replaced. There’s an excess payment of S$100 for Standard or Lite policyholders.
