Stock in AMTD Digital (NYSE: HKD) have been on a rollercoaster this week, jumping more than 3,000% in just days and a whopping 10,000% since the firm's IPO on the NYSE on July 15.
Since then, the stock has tumbled over 40% in 24 hours from its peak. There's no doubt this is a volatile situation.
AMTD Digital is a fintech and subsidiary of Hong Kong based investment bank AMTD Idea Group, which is also listed on the NYSE. It was founded in 2019 and provides services across Asia.

Why is HKD stock soaring?
It's not clear.
Some media commentators are comparing the stock to GameStop (GME), which saw its price surge in early 2021 thanks to hype from Reddit users on trade forum Wallstreetbets. However there's not a lot of proof that redditors or users on other social sites are the cause here, with most posts on r/wallstreetbets appearing only after the stock price surge.
There also aren't any big announcements or news to help explain HKD's price volatility. In a statement by AMTD Digital, it said it had no knowledge of any significant events since its IPO but that it was monitoring the situation.
Well, we're also monitoring the situation and will update this page once we know more. Stay tuned!
