Aviva is one of the major insurance providers in Singapore and also considered a household name.
One of the key selling points of an Aviva car insurance policy is the low NCD penalty. But what else other features does it offer?
Aviva car insurance plans at a glance
Like other insurers, Aviva car insurance has three tiers ranging in coverage and premiums. The cheapest one is the Lite version, followed by the Standard plan. The most expensive one is the Prestige tier, which offers more flexibility and benefits.
|Tier||Aviva Lite||Aviva Standard||Aviva Prestige|
|Choice of workshop||Aviva authorised workshops only||Aviva authorised workshops. (Pay double excess for non-approved workshop)||Any repairer|
|Replacement car provided for||Cars less than 1 year old||Cars less than 1 year old||Cars less than 2 year old|
|Young & inexperienced driver excess||$2,500.00||$2,500.00||$0.00|
|Windscreen excess payment||$100.00||$100.00||No excess|
|Medical expenses (driver and passengers)||$500||$2,500.00||$5,000.00|
|Damage to third party’s property||Max $5 million||Max $5 million||Max $5 million|
Standard and Prestige Aviva car insurance policyholders also get free rides home if the insured car cannot be driven after an accident.
The Prestige Plan also has an eCall assistance service. How it works is that you will be given a Bosch smart sensor device to plug into the car. The driver can then use the “Aviva eCall Assistance” app to pair the device to the app via Bluetooth. The device will automatically call Aviva’s emergency team when a car crash occurs.
A key advantage of the Prestige plan is that it has $0 excess for young and inexperienced drivers. So if you have families with drivers who just got their licenses, the plan will offer extra peace of mind.The claiming process is easy through Aviva. You can also claim an unlimited number of times if you repair at any Aviva authorised workshop.
However, if you have a modified car, rest assured that Aviva will offer coverage as long as the modifications are compliant with and approved by the Land Transport Authority (LTA).
Aviva car insurance add-ons
There are additional add-ons you can purchase to complement the existing coverage on your plan.
No Claims Discount (NCD) Protector: Aviva’s NCD is a great benefit. You can add-on an NCD protector, which will reset your NCD up to one accident. But, since Aviva only penalises you with 10% reduction in your NCD (for all plans), much lower than the industry standard of 30%, it may not be that important to have such a protector, unless you really want to.
Replacement car, or “courtesy car”: When you get into an accident, you may be inconvenienced when your car is left at the workshop. If you have this add-on, Aviva will provide you will a “courtesy car” for up to 10 days.
Replacement locks and keys: Are you a forgetful person with a track record of losing your car keys, or, do anticipate that your car may get broken into? Adding this feature can help you cover the replacement of locks and keys, up to $500.
Additional Personal Accident cover: Enjoy personal accident coverage of up to $100,000 for driver and passengers when you tag this add-on with your Aviva car insurance policy.
Aviva car insurance promo codes
Aviva car insurance has promotions, such as up to 32% off Aviva car insurance premiums, from time to time. Check Aviva’s official website for the latest promo code.
Additionally, existing car insurance policyholders get renewal benefits. Upon successful renewal, the policyholder can enjoy a free Personal Accident rider that is worth $107 and also receive a CapitaLand voucher worth $40 (for annual plans).
Are there any other discounts for Aviva car insurance?
Due to the comprehensiveness of Aviva’s basic car insurance plans, premiums are not going to be cheap. But the good thing is that Aviva offers up to 15% discount for MHA and MINDEF Group Term Life policyholders—basically most NSmen who opted for the term life plan when they were in the army.
If you drive safely and don’t get into an accident, you can get a higher NCD discount, 10% more each year if you do not file a claim, up to 50%.
Additionally, if you are happy with Aviva’s plan, you can also lock down the premium for two years under the Dual Year Plan.
Should you get Aviva car insurance?
Aviva car insurance may not be the cheapest on the market, it is one of the more comprehensive ones. If you can get promo codes or discounts to secure a cheaper premium, we think it’s a great car insurance policy plan.
With the lowest penalty on NCD upon a car insurance claim, as well as the eCall Assistance and $0 excess for young and inexperienced drivers offered under the Prestige Plan make Aviva car insurance great for insuring family cars.
