The American Express Platinum Reserve Credit Card is ideally suited to those who travel regularly and like the idea of enjoying world-class service from Amex. This rewards credit card offers bonus air miles along with a host of members’ perks, including a two-night stay at certain Frasers Hospitality properties.

Benefits of the American Express Platinum Reserve Credit Card
- Competitive air miles rate. The regular earn rate with this card works out at two points for every $1.60 spent. If you spend on your card at Platinum EXTRA Partners, such as Maison 21G and The Hour Glass, you’ll get up to 10 Membership Rewards points (5.5 miles) for every $1.60.
- Card privileges. Golf, wellness and dining benefits are among the benefits of choosing this card. For example, you can get up to 50% off your food bill at over 50 restaurants in Singapore. Plus, cardholders get further food perks as this card is an official partner for Michelin Guide Singapore. Elsewhere you can enjoy complimentary two-night stay at certain Frasers Hospitality properties each year.
- Purchase protection. American Express may be able to provide a refund if you return an eligible item within 90 days of its purchase (there’s a typical refund limit of $800 per item). What’s more, this provider’s 90-days purchase protection can insure your purchases against accidental damage or theft, up to $10,000 per incidence. Terms and conditions apply.
Features of the American Express Platinum Reserve Credit Card
- Annual fee. This card has an annual fee of $535.
- Make fast, convenient payments. This card comes with PIN, chip, and contactless technologies, offering convenience along with security. You can use this card at any merchant who accepts American Express, anywhere in the world.
- Online access. Access your account details from anywhere in the world as long as you have an internet enabled desktop, laptop, or smartphone. Once online, you can keep track of transactions, schedule payments, set up reminders so you don’t miss making payments, and track progress of your rewards points.

- There are multiple members’ benefits to enjoy including with American Express Selects, Platinum Lifestyle, Love Dining and more.
- Get permanent annual fee waivers on up to two supplementary cards (which typically cost $160.50 each).
- Your Membership Rewards Points (which translate to air miles) don’t have an expiry date. There’s also a permanent waiver of any miles transfer fee.
Cons
- Fewer card benefits than with the AMEX Platinum Charge Card (but note that this card charges an annual fee of $1,712).
- Annual fee of $535 applies to this card.
- You must have a minimum annual income of at least $150,000.
How to apply
You can apply for an American Express credit card quickly online. Follow these steps to apply for an American Express credit card:
- Check that you meet the eligibility criteria for your chosen credit card.
- Go to the American Express website.
- Once you submit your card application online, you’ll receive an instant decision within 60 seconds. Some approvals are granted as conditional approvals.
- If you pass this stage, you’ll get further instructions to upload the required supporting documents. American Express will assess and verify the information you provided. If your application is approved, you’ll receive your card in the next three to five business days.
- Before you apply for an American Express credit card, make sure you meet the eligibility requirements and have the required documents to hand.
Eligibility criteria
- Age. You must be at least 21 years of age to apply. Supplementary cardholders must be over 18 years old
- Minimum income. You’ll have to have an income of $150,000 or more per year
- Residential status. Singaporean citizens, permanent residents and foreigners can apply for an Amex credit card. However, foreigners may be subject to higher income requirements and stricter employment criteria
- Credit history. Applicants must have a good credit rating.
Required documents
Make sure you have the following information and documents ready when you apply:
- Personal details. You’ll need to provide personal details including your name, email address, phone number, residential address and National Registration Identity Card (NRIC) or passport.
- Credit card information. Typically you’ll need to provide your credit card number and disclose information including your annual income bracket, whether you currently hold an Amex credit card and the type of card you wish to apply for (cashback, rewards or air miles for example).
Supporting documents
Fully salaried applicants
- Photocopy of your NRIC (front and back), and
- Central Provident Fund (CPF) contribution history for the last 12 months, or
- Latest three months’ computerised payslip, or
- Latest Income Tax Notice of Assessment and your CPF contribution history for the last 12 months, or your last three months’ computerised payslips
- Self-employed or fully commissioned applicants
- Photocopy of your NRIC (front and back), and
- Latest Income Tax Notice of Assessment for the last two years
- Latest three months’ computerised payslip
Commission or variable income earner applicants
- Photocopy of your NRIC (front and back), and
- CPF contribution history for the last 12 months, or
- Computerised payslip for the last three months, or
- Latest Income Tax Notice of Assessment and latest computerised payslip
Foreigners
In addition to the income documents indicated above, you will also need to provide the following:
- Valid passport, and
- Employment pass (for primary cardholders only), and
- Utility bills or bank statements with your residential address, and
- Company letter stating proof of employment (if you’ve been working for less than three months).
