Stream your favourite reality TV shows with hayu

With an exclusive focus on the best reality TV the world has to offer, hayu is a niche streaming service catering to a specific audience.

There’s no disputing that the world seems to have developed an overwhelming love affair with what’s been dubbed “reality TV”. These shows promise an “unscripted” look at the lives and trials of everyone from the rich and famous to regular, unknown people.

While reality TV is a mainstay for free-to-air and pay TV services, its popularity led to the arrival of a streaming service dedicated to the genre. hayu is available in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, the UK, Ireland, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg.

How much does hayu cost?

Because hayu only streams reality TV content, with no options for drama, sport or documentaries, its prices are cheaper than other streaming websites such as Netflix.

hayu charges SEK49 per month for its service in Sweden, with no lock-in contract. There’s also a 7-day free trial for new users, which is useful to explore whether you think the service is right for your entertainment needs.

Which devices can I use to access hayu?

hayu is currently designed to be accessed via a dedicated iOS or Android app on your mobile device or on the web through a compatible browser. You will need at least iOS 9.0 or Android 4.4 (KitKat) to use the app on your smartphone or tablet.

But for those who like their reality TV on the big screen, hayu has an app for the fourth generation Apple TV. The hayu app also supports streaming content over Chromecast or AirPlay to the big screen.

Your only other choice is via Android TV. However, if you’ve downloaded an episode, you’ll need to watch it on your device.

How do I access hayu?

If you use streaming services like Netflix, hayu will be instantly familiar. If this is your first streaming service or you’re still a bit lost, here is what to do:

  1. Go to the hayu website and fill in your account details.
  2. Watch your shows from the hayu website or download the hayu app on your Apple or Android device. Keep in mind the app requires that you have at least iOS 9.0 or Android 4.4 (Kit-Kat) to download.
  3. Sign in on your device.
  4. Enjoy the latest reality TV shows.

What quality does hayu stream at?

hayu can deliver your daily dose of Kardashians in up to HD quality, depending on your Internet connection. Like many streaming services, it uses adaptive streaming quality to adjust the quality of the stream based on the connection speed, as well as the device you are using to watch the service.

Unlike some other streaming services though, there’s no way to manually set the quality of your streams while watching on a mobile device, which is a potentially dangerous situation for users with low data allowances on their mobile plans.

hayu does offset this by offering the ability to download episodes to your mobile or tablet devices for offline viewing. Videos are available to download to your device in either SD, which is approximately a 300MB download or HD, which is about 700MB.

You can download a maximum of 25 episodes at a time. After that you must either delete an episode or wait 30 days for it to be removed from your download list to get more.

hayu trial offer

hayu offers a free 7-day trial for new users. This allows you to try out the features and see whether hayu offers shows that you like before purchasing a plan. As there are no contracts, if you end up not liking the content or the service, you can cancel at anytime.
