Alliant Visa Signature credit card

Review: Alliant Visa Signature credit card

With rates as low as 10.99% and 3% cash back the first year, this could be your ultimate cash-back card.

  • Get this card if… you want to earn unlimited 2.5% cash back on all purchases.
  • Pick something else if…you plan to spend less than $11,800 each year or if want a no-annual-fee card.
  • Excellent credit score of 720 to 850 recommended.

This card offers no annual fee and 3% cash back in the first year. So spending $3,500 per month could earn you $1,260 total cash back in the first year. Each year thereafter you’ll earn 2.5% cash back. So by spending $11,800 annually with your Alliant Visa Signature, you’ll offset the $59 annual fee.

The basics

The Alliant Visa Signature card offers generous cashback at 2.5%, well above the standard 1%–2% offered by most cards. You’ll make the most of this card if you’re a big spender — the more you spend, the more cash back you’ll get.

Alliant is a credit union, so as a member you get the benefits of low rates and fees, along with the robust offers of a Visa card. If you’re looking for an intro APR offer or no annual fees, you might want to check out other Alliant credit cards.

Finding the best Alliant Credit Union card for you will depend on how much you spend and what you’re willing to pay in fees. While you can find a no-annual-fee card, Alliant credit union also provides cash back and rewards cards.

Annual fee. The Signature Card waives the $59 annual fee the first year, compared to the Platinum and Platinum Rewards cards, which have no annual fees.

  • Verdict. If you want to pay no annual fees for the life of your card, the Platinum or Platinum Rewards cards might work well for you. But if you plan on spending more, the cash back offered with the Signature card can help offset that annual fee.

Cashback and rewards. While the Signature Card offers cash back on all purchases, the Platinum Rewards Card lets you redeem points for travel rewards, merchandise, gift cards or cash back. The Platinum Card doesn’t come with cash back or rewards.

  • Verdict. Get the Signature Card if you want cash back, and the Platinum Rewards Card if you’re after a variety of rewards.

Balance transfers. The Platinum and Platinum Rewards cards come with intro APR offers on balance transfers for 12 months, and you won’t pay a transfer fee. But you’ll pay a fee for balance transfers with the Signature Card.

  • Verdict. If you’re considering transferring an outstanding balance from an existing card, the Platinum and Platinum Rewards cards are best.
