  • Pick something else if…you want to earn rewards.
  • Good to excellent credit score of 680 to 850 recommended.

If you’re troubled by credit card debt and are paying double-digit interest, you’ll like Alliant Visa Platinum’s intro APR: 0% for the first year. Go ahead and transfer a balance, and pay no fees or interest for the first year. All of this, with no annual fee, the Alliant Visa Platinum Card is a solid card to help you get out of credit card debt.

The basics

It can be almost impossible to get out of credit card debt with high APRs and annual fees. Alliant Visa Platinum makes transferring balances easy and affordable. And because they’re a credit union, you’ll benefit from a low 9.99%–21.99% APR after the introductory period. However, if you need a card with no foreign transaction fees, or cashback or rewards, other Alliant credit cards might work better.

Finding the best Alliant Credit Union card for you will depend on how much you spend and what you’re willing to pay in fees. While you can find a no-annual-fee card, Alliant credit union also provides cash back and rewards cards.

Annual fee. The Signature Card waives the $59 annual fee the first year, compared to the Platinum and Platinum Rewards cards that have no annual fees.

  • Verdict. If you want to pay no annual fees for the life of your card, the Platinum or Platinum Rewards card might work well for you. But if you plan on spending more, the cash back offered with the Signature card can help offset that annual fee.

Cashback and rewards. While the Signature Card offers cash back on all purchases, the Platinum Rewards Card lets you redeem points for travel rewards, merchandise, gift cards or cash back. The Platinum Card doesn’t come with cash back or rewards.

  • Verdict. Get the Signature Card if you want cash back, and the Platinum Rewards Card if you’re after a variety of rewards.

Balance transfers. The Platinum and Platinum Rewards cards come with intro APR offers on balance transfers for 12 months, and you won’t pay a transfer fee. You’ll pay a fee for balance transfers with the Signature Card.

  • Verdict. If you’re considering transferring an outstanding balance from an existing card, the Platinum and Platinum Rewards cards are best.
