How to measure for the best lingerie fit

If your bra doesn’t fit right, it can be uncomfortable — or even downright painful. It could even break if it’s the wrong size.

Here’s how to measure your bod for plus-size lingerie:

  1. Find a measuring tape.
  2. Put on a lightly lined or unlined bra.
  3. Measure around your rib cage, right beneath your breasts. Round down to the nearest even number to find your band size.
  4. Next, measure around the fullest part of your breasts. For most women, that’s right around your nipples, but everyone’s unique.
  5. Subtract your band measurement from your bust measurement, and use the table below to find your cup size.

How do I know if my bra fits?

Even if you know your correct size, here’s how to evaluate how well a bra fits when you try it on:

  • The part of the bra that’s between your breasts should lay flat to your chest.
  • You should be able to fit two fingers under your straps. If they hurt your shoulders, go up a cup size!
  • If your girls spill out, you need bigger cups. If the cups wrinkle, size down.
  • The underwire should sit like a circle around your breasts, hugging your body. If your underwire bends or contorts to accommodate your girls, the bra is too small.
  • If your band rides up, requiring pulling down throughout the day, size up a band size.
