Playster review
The Basic plan offers unlimited audiobooks — but accessing some Premium titles requires an upgrade.
Playster offers unlimited audiobooks that you can listen to for a monthly fee through the Playster app, which supports both Android and iOS systems. But many people expecting a truly unlimited listening experience may end up being disappointed.
What is Playster?
Playster’s audiobooks library runs more than 50,000 titles strong, which doesn’t compare to some of its bigger competitors. But you are entitled to listen to as many books as you wish.
On the flipside, users might find using the Basic plan for $14.95 per month that many titles are ranked as Premium, in which case you’ll have to step up your membership to access them. That means signing up the Premium plan for $29.95 a month.
And unlike its Amazon Prime and Audible competitors, you don’t get to keep the titles you download once you cancel your subscription.
Playster has come under fire in recent years for its service. Common complaints from readers include technical faults with the app, a lack of updates and poor customer service.
Plus, its main web page displays only its logo. Otherwise it’s noninteractive — a bit of a concern if you’re looking for more information or to sign up for membership.
But more recent reviews suggest that Playster has upped its game and provides a decent audiobook service that meets its competition. But signing up might be a roundabout experience.
