Bank of America automates conditional credit approval online, which means you could see a provisional decision on your application in minutes. If you’re approved, you’ll typically receive your card in the mail within seven to 10 business days.
This card offers strong rewards, which you can start earning for no annual fee.
Earn 3% cash back on a category of your choice and 2% at grocery stores and wholesale clubs for the first $2,500 in combined purchases each quarter, then 1%. These are good reward rates for everyday purchases as long as you spend under $2,500 a quarter.
Earn 1% cash back on everything else.
Make at least $1,000 in purchases in the first 90 days of your account opening and earn a cash bonus of $200. This is a great deal for a no-annual-fee card. Many other competitors offer bonuses worth only $150.
This is a solid intro APR. If you’re looking for a longer one for purchases and balance transfers, you can shoot for a promotion of up to 20 months. Credit cards with rewards tend to offer intro APRs of 15 months at most.
For balances to qualify for this card’s intro APR, you must make them within the first 60 days of card membership.
When you make eligible purchases for the promotional period — and when you renew — Bank of America will make donations to the Susan G. Komen foundation.
If you keep your card for at least 90 days, BoA will donate $3 and 0.08% of your eligible retail purchases to Susan G. Komen. When you renew your card, BoA will donate $3 to the foundation if your account was in good standing during the previous 12 months and your account doesn’t have a zero balance at the time of renewal.
This card is most effective when you spend less than $2,500 a quarter in combined gas, grocery and wholesale-club purchases. This lets you maximize your rewards.
Here’s how much cash back you might earn on this hypothetical budget:
Over a year, you’d earn $288 in cash back. If you redeemed it into a BoA checking or savings account, you’d get a 10% bonus for a total deposit of $316.80.
Let’s use the hypothetical budget from above. Over 90 days, you might spend $3,900 in total purchases. In that case, Bank of America would contribute 0.08% of that — or just over $3 — to Susan G. Komen. The bank would also contribute another $3.
Each year you renew your card and your account is eligible, Bank of America will donate $3 to Susan G. Komen.
Redeem your cash back into a Bank of America checking or savings account for a 10% bonus. If you redeem $100 in cash back, for example, you’ll receive an extra $10.
If you’re part of Bank of America Preferred Rewards, your bonus could be 25% to 75%. For example, if you qualify for Gold tier in Preferred Rewards — which means you have $20,000 to $50,000 in combined BoA and Merrill Edge investing and trading accounts — you’ll receive a 25% credit card rewards bonus.
The card comes with a purchase and balance transfer APR of up to 23.99% variable. You’re more likely to receive an APR around that figure if you have shaky credit. It’s high compared to the average 16% APR.
If you make a late payment, Bank of America may impose a 29.99% variable penalty APR on all of your balances. The rate may apply indefinitely.
Many banks don’t have penalty APRs, so don’t be afraid to shop around for another card if you tend to miss payments.
To apply for the Susan G. Komen® Cash Rewards Visa®, you must be:
While Bank of America doesn’t specify a cutoff credit score, you’ll have better approval odds if you apply with a good to excellent score of 670 or higher .
The Susan G. Komen® Cash Rewards Visa® is modeled after the Bank of America® Cash Rewards Credit Card. For the latter card, many customers say they’re pleased with the rewards on gas and groceries. However, other cardholders say they’ve experienced poor communication and customer service from Bank of America.
Bank of America is accredited by the Better Business Bureau and receives an A+ rating from the agency. The average of its customer reviews is around 1 out of 5 stars. As of this writing, it has nearly 6,000 customer complaints.
For each transfer, you’ll pay fee of $10 or 3% of the transaction amount, whichever is greater.
This card has a higher-than-average minimum balance transfer fee. Many other card providers charge a $5 minimum fee.
You can redeem your rewards when your cash rewards balance is at least $25. Simply log in to your Bank of America online account to do so. Here’s what you can redeem for:
If you redeem your cash back for one of the last two options, you’ll receive a 10% bonus. And if you qualify for Bank of America Preferred Rewards, you’ll receive a bonus of 25% to 75%.
If you’re looking to support the Susan G. Komen foundation and earn generous rewards on gas, groceries and wholesale-club purchases, the Susan G. Komen® Cash Rewards Visa® is worth a look.
