ZKSwap is a layer-2 decentralised exchange (DEX). Like other decentralised exchanges, it implements an Automated Market Maker (AMM), or algorithm, to automatically set exchange prices. However, unlike DEXs that are built on a layer-1 network, ZKSwap implements layer-2 zero-knowledge rollup (zk-rollup) technology. According to ZKSwap’s website, this means the platform can complete exchanges almost instantaneously with zero gas fees. Although built on the Ethereum blockchain, thanks to zk-rollups, transactions are completed off-chain allowing for unlimited scalability and privacy. A user remains in full control of their assets, and exchanges remain completely confidential. ZKS is the native token of the ZKSwap protocol and is primarily used for the governance of the platform. It gives loyal community members the right to make crucial decisions regarding protocol functions, reward systems and improvements.
