Founded in 1999, SurveyMonkey is a cloud-based, software-as-a-service (SaaS) company that allows users to create and administer online surveys. The basic survey package is free, with SurveyMonkey also offering large-scale enterprise services to companies for the purposes of consumer-focused marketing, brand management and data analysis. SurveyMonkey counts Facebook, Samsung and Salesforce among its clients. A single user can get unlimited surveys for approximately €25 per month.

SurveyMonkey is one of the longest-standing services for creating and using surveys. The features range from free, 10-question data-gathering questionnaires to paid options that can include custom logos and branding. Survey questions can include any of the following:

SurveyMonkey can help you define a target audience and send out a survey within a matter of minutes. The company states it has the ability to reach millions of people around the world and identify them by any required demographic attributes. Results can be analysed from anywhere at anytime with SurveyMonkey’s online survey panel.
In 2013, SurveyMonkey announced it would begin offering business solutions for enterprises. A full palette of additional options is available, including help with writing survey questions, custom URLs, extra features for respondents, and a custom look and feel for each survey.
Data collected from these surveys has multiple extra features, including the ability to export data to CSV, XLS or SPSS. Surveys can be embedded into your own apps or websites, or posted to the likes of LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook. The enterprise packages also allow for collaboration among members of your organisation along with security for survey data.

Pros and cons
Survey Monkey’s expansion to enterprise-level solutions has sent the company to new heights and allowed it to continually expand on its services. Some of its pricing structures bear a bit of consideration, however.
- A free demonstration of the enterprise package is available, to make clear what is possible for businesses considering the Premier Plan.
- Basic Plan can carry a lot of businesses through their year without having to invest a single dollar.
- Paying annually for the Standard Plan comes to a savings of about $3.85/month, so there’s not much of an incentive to pay the full price up front.
- The Premier plan does not gain any extra users beyond the Advantage plan, despite the costs increasing nearly 200 percent.
