Only 90 minutes away from Christchurch lies the Porters ski area and its 678 vertical metres of winter playground for you to enjoy.
Although within driving distance of Christchurch, if you’re coming from further afield or are planning on spending a few days on the slopes, there are plenty of places to stay.

Porters ski area resort guide
A mix of gentle, long cruising and challenging runs makes Porters a good place for groups of mixed abilities to visit.
While there are some green-circle beginner runs and lessons available, the majority of the runs are intermediate-level or higher.
Intermediate and expert snowboarders and skiers can enjoy Mountain Park with its range of features and friendly atmosphere to improve your skills among fellow snow enthusiasts.
Porters has six lifts available to skiers, including one for beginners:
- 1 x beginners carpet lift
- 1 x intermediate platter lift
- 1 x four-seater chairlift
- 3 x T-bar lifts
While there’s no accommodation available right at the resort, on-site facilities include a cafe, equipment hire and servicing to your own equipment, including sharpening and waxing.
