When is Marvel’s Hero Project coming out?
The first two episodes of Marvel’s Hero Project should be available on Disney+ when the platform launched in New Zealand on 19 November. After that, episodes will drop weekly.
What is Marvel’s Hero Project About?
You don’t have to swing from a spider web to fight injustice. That’s exactly what Marvel’s Hero Project is set to prove. This docuseries will focus on 20 special children from all around the US who manage to make a difference in the world without any sign of superpowers.
Instead, they’re real-life heroes who commit acts of bravery and kindness. Each episode, the show will welcome the kids to the Marvel universe by turning their stories into actual comics everyone can read and be inspired by.
Who stars in Marvel’s Hero Project?
The show doesn’t focus on big stars. Instead, it shines the spotlight on ordinary children doing extraordinary things. Like Adonis Watt, who lost his eyesight but still dreams about joining the NFL. Or Elijah Lee, an 11-year-old activist who fights against child abuse. Or Jordan Reeves, who gained international fame after designing a glitter-shooting prosthetic arm for herself.
Marvel’s Hero Project review: Is it any good?
Most definitely yes. With such a touching premise, the show would have to try really hard to flop. The trailer looks heartwarming and the series looks quite inspiring overall. It may not be worth getting the new Disney+ solely for this, but if you do, definitely give the show a watch. We can almost guarantee it will make you tear up.
Marvel’s Hero Project currently has a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics calling the series uplifting and powerful.
“While [it] doesn’t include the kind of superheroes we’re used to seeing battle bad guys on the big screen, the series could motivate both kids and adults struggling with problems in their lives and communities to start working toward solutions,” one critic wrote.
If you decide to watch, you’ll be able to read the comics as well, on the Marvel website, for free. Moreover, so will Adonis Watt. The coming episode featuring him as the “Unstoppable Adonis” will mark the first time Marvel has done a full-length story in braille.
Disney+ launched in New Zealand on 19 November, offering a vast library of family-friendly content. There’s a slate of new original shows and movies as an enticement to try it out including Marvel’s Hero Project.
The New Zealand launch hasn’t experienced the same teething issues as the US, but we’re yet to hit night time peak usage. You can peruse the Disney+ content library to see what you’ll be able to watch once you sign up.
Some titles might not be available in New Zealnd at launch due to ongoing agreements with other content providers, but there’s still plenty to look forward to.
The new streaming service will offer content from not only Disney, but also Pixar, Lucasfilm, National Geographic, 20th Century Fox and Marvel. All for $12.99/month with a 7-day free trial.
