Can I send money to Cuba?
Is there a way to send money to loved ones in Cuba?
Unfortunately, it’s difficult to send money from New Zealand to Cuba. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT), there are very few options available.
International money transfer services aren’t available to New Zealanders in Cuba and banks may not be able to send money to Cuba, especially those associated with US banks, like Westpac or Amex.
A Cuban company, Assistur SA, may be able to provide similar services, but users note that it can be slow and expensive.
Within Cuba, credit cards and debit cards are not accepted if they’re issued by US banks or New Zealand banks affiliated with US banks. Traveller’s cheques are similarly not accepted.
Your international money transfer options in New Zealand
While services that send money to Cuba might be limited, you can send money from New Zealand to other countries around the world.
