Warehouse Money is the finance and insurance branch of The Warehouse, offering credit cards and insurance for home, contents, landlord and car.
The Warehouse car insurance is underwritten by Vero Insurance New Zealand Limited and offers Kiwis peace of mind while they are on the road.
What cover options does The Warehouse car insurance offer?
The Warehouse provides three levels of cover so you can choose the right one to suit your needs and budget. Even though car insurance is not compulsory in New Zealand, it is worth choosing at least a minimum level of cover so that you are not left with the liability to pay if you should cause an accident.
Everyday Plus Car Insurance is the name of The Warehouse comprehensive policy. This covers damage to your own vehicle as well as others, plus fire, theft and completion of journey costs.
This policy includes the following benefits:
- Legal liability of up to $20 million
- Damage or loss of your vehicle of up to the amount stated in your policy
- Up to $500 for emergency travel and accommodation
- Reasonable costs for towing and storage
- Replacement car cover
- New for old replacement
- Car hire after theft
- Up to $1,000 for trailer cover
- Up to $1,000 for locks and keys
- Up to $500 for personal property
- Reasonable costs for transport cover
This policy covers damage that you cause to other people’s property or vehicle while driving, as well as loss or damage by uninsured drivers.
The policy contains the following benefits:
- Legal liability of up to $20 million
- Cover for fire or theft of your vehicle up to the amount covered in the policy
- Up to $5,000 for damage to your vehicle by uninsured drivers
- Up to 14 days’ car hire after your vehicle is stolen
- Up to $1,000 for locks and keys
- Emergency travel and accommodation costs
- Reasonable towing and storage costs
- Replacement car cover up to $75,000
The Warehouse’s minimum level of cover gives you cover for liability for accidental damage or loss to property or vehicles.
This policy includes:
- Legal liability of up to $20 million
- Up to $5,000 for damage to your vehicle by an insured driver
- Reasonable costs for transport cover
What is excluded by The Warehouse?
Every insurer has certain circumstances they won’t agree to cover you for. In The Warehouse car insurance policies you can find the following exclusions that claims will be refused for:
- Accidents caused by drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol
- Commercial use of the vehicle
- Intentional loss or damage
- Reckless driving
- Unlicensed drivers
- Legal confiscation or repossession
- Accidents caused by unsafe or unroadworthy cars, or driving a damaged car
- Exceeding passenger or load limits
- Transporting dangerous goods
- Incorrect fuel usage
- Failure to take reasonable precautions while driving
- Using your car for motorsports
- Acts of war or terrorism
- Burst tyres or punctures unless in relation to other damage to the car
How much excess will I pay?
You will be given a standard excess amount when you complete your online quote. You can either choose to keep this or increase the excess to make your premiums lower. If the driver of your vehicle is under 25 or is classed as an inexperienced driver, there will be additional excesses to pay.
How to save on your The Warehouse car insurance policy
- Higher excess. By choosing a higher excess you can reduce the cost of your premium.
- Consider your options. Not everybody needs the optional extras that are on offer. Carefully consider what you really need to keep your premiums as low as possible.
- Pay annually. By paying your annual premium in one lump sum you can save money compared to when paying in instalments.
How do I make a claim?
To make a claim, all you need to do is contact The Warehouse by phone and provide the details of what has happened. You will need to collect details of witnesses plus details of any police reports made. Often claims are able to be done completely over the phone so you won’t need to fill in any forms. Each case is unique so you will be advised of what steps you need to take.
Other benefits of getting insurance with The Warehouse
- Hassle-free claims. Often claims can be completed over the phone without having to worry about filling in forms.
- Repair guarantee. Any repairs to your vehicle that Warehouse arranges come with a lifetime guarantee.
When you take out an Everyday Plus comprehensive policy you also have the option of adding the following benefits:
- Hire car. Warehouse Money will provide you with a hire car after an accident while yours is being repaired.
- Roadside assistance. You’ll get unlimited call-outs if you get a flat battery, flat tyre or run out of fuel, plus after-hours recovery, storage and towing.
FAQs
With three levels of cover, The Warehouse car insurance policies are worth considering whether you are after minimal cover for peace of mind or a more comprehensive package. But as there is a lot of competition in the insurance market, you should always check to see if you are able to get a better deal elsewhere. Take your time to compare prices and benefits of car insurance policies and find the right option to suit your needs.
