What does Swann Insurance generally exclude?

As with all insurance policies, Swann Insurance does not provide cover for every event that you may want to make a claim for.

General exclusions include:

  • Using your vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol
  • Loss or damage as a result of confiscation or acquisition by the government or local authorities
  • Loss or damage to electronic data
  • Loss or damage as a result of reckless or intentional acts
  • Modifications not agreed to in your policy
  • Use of the vehicle for anything other than the described use
  • Acts of terrorism or war
  • Unlicensed drivers
  • Using the vehicle when it is deemed unsafe or unroadworthy.

Other exclusions do apply, so make sure to read your policy document carefully to understand what is and what isn’t covered.

How much excess will I pay?

There are three types of excess that you may be liable to pay in the event that you need to make a claim:

  • Basic excess. The standard excess that applies to all claims. Your excess amount is stated on your policy documents.
  • Theft excess. This excess applies when your vehicle is damaged or stolen as a result of theft. The amount payable is shown on your policy document.
  • Age excess. If a person under 25 is driving your vehicle at the time of damage or loss, a $400 excess will apply.

You will not need to pay an excess if another driver was responsible for an accident and you follow the steps indicated by Swann Insurance.

How to save on insurance with Swann Insurance

There are three ways that you can save on your insurance with Swann Insurance:

  • Multi-vehicle discount. Insure two or more vehicles with Swann Insurance and receive a multi-vehicle discount.
  • Level of cover. There are three or four levels of cover depending on which type of vehicle you have. While full cover gives the most comprehensive coverage, another level of cover may be suitable and help you save a little money.
  • Limit optional extensions. Insurance policies have optional extensions to add on to cover events not already listed. Decide whether you really need these extras as they will increase your premium.

How do I make a claim?

If you need to make a claim, you can start by calling Swann Insurance by phone. You will also need to fill in a claims form for your particular policy which can be downloaded from the website. There are different forms available for accidents or theft and fire, and each requires detailed information about what has happened and what you are claiming for.

For extended warranty claims, you can contact Swann by phone, and if approved, repairs can be made at an authorised repair facility.
