What type of items can I expect to buy during the Black Friday homeware sales?

You’ll find lots of homewares to suit your space at all the popular online retailers, as well as some lesser-known brands. Gorgeous linen, throws, cushions, artwork, prints, storage solutions, occasional furniture, dining wear and lamps will be available for a discount.

If you want to amp up your sound system or get the latest in electrical items – no problem! You are bound to find the home appliances and tech you need online for a bargain during the Black Friday sales.

Where to shop for homewares on Black Friday

These are just some of the stores that we are expecting to hold Black Friday homeware sales this year:

We recommend browsing these sites before 26 November 2021 so you can pick out the items you like and compare prices. Then, when Black Friday sales begin, you can be ready to snap up the bargains.

What are the types of savings I can expect?

Looking at sales from previous years is a great way to see what we can expect in 2021.

Some of the Black Friday homewares offers in 2020 included:

  • Adairs had 20% off full-priced items.
  • TheMarket had up to 40% off home and living, plus an extra 10% off sitewide.
  • Ezibuy had up to 70% off fashion and home items.
  • Catch started Black Friday specials early with a $5 million kitchen and appliance sale, featuring discounts on popular food prep brands.
  • eBay cut 20% off millions of items across tech, fashion, homewares, beauty and more.

When do Black Friday homeware sales start?

Black Friday is on 26 November 2021. Some stores start their sales early so keep your eyes out for great deals and discounts in the days and weeks before this. Discounts often continue until Cyber Monday on 29 November and sometimes for a few days into December.

Keep an eye on your favourite retailers to find out how long their Black Friday sales will run for this year.

Black Friday delivery timeframes

Every store has a different shipping policy so check their web page to find out how much delivery costs and the estimated delivery time. Bear in mind that delivery can take longer during busy sale times.

With Black Friday being the most popular shopping event of the year, you should allow for an extra few days for your order to arrive. Usually, oversized items such as furniture will usually take a bit longer than smaller items.

Deliveries coming from overseas can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks depending on the retailer and the country of origin. The global pandemic and reduced number of flights coming into New Zealand mean that you may experience further delays on items purchased during the 2021 Black Friday homeware sales.

Can I shop in-store for homewares on Black Friday?

You certainly can. Well, that is if New Zealand isn’t under Level 3 or Level 4 lockdown restrictions. If you adore the buzzing atmosphere of in-store shopping during busy sale events like Black Friday, you won’t want to miss out on the deals and discounts up for grabs at your local stores this year.

However, if you hate the stress of shopping in overcrowded malls, you’re self-isolating or are in lockdown, the sales will still be going ahead online. You’ll be able to access all the exclusive Black Friday homeware savings from your favourite spot on the sofa via the retailer’s website or app.

What time can I start shopping?

The Black Friday event officially starts on Friday 26 November 2021, with the very best deals scheduled to land on websites in the early hours.

Online shoppers will have access to exclusive savings on offer before retail stores open. VIP or club members may be treated to an exclusive early look at specials before the general public. However, you can still find some great deals in the weeks leading up to Black Friday as retailers compete for your business.

Which forms of payment do retailers accept?

Online retailers differ in the types of payment they accept, but it is standard to be able to pay by Mastercard or Visa, either with a debit card or credit card. Many stores also accept American Express and PayPal.

The number of stores offering buy now, pay later for purchases is growing. Look out for the Afterpay, humm, Zip, Laybuy and GenoaPay symbols on the retailer’s site, or check the FAQs for payment information.

Keep in mind that only some overseas stores, usually those that are based in Australia, will allow New Zealanders to pay using buy now pay later. Make sure to check this information before creating an order if this is your preferred method of payment.

Returns, exchanges and refunds for homewares

Again every retailer has different policies when it comes to returns and exchanges. Many online retailers will allow you to return and/or exchange items bought in the Black Friday homeware sales. However, there may be restrictions from some retailers with final sale items and you usually have to pay for return shipping.

Some stores allow you to return in-store and some stores are online only. Check the store’s returns policy on its website carefully before you order.
