Uber Eats has expanded past New York City’s Manhattan Island and now also delivers to White Plains, Long Island and other suburbs of New York City. Uber Eats is a mobile app from the creators of Uber that allows you to order takeout food and have it delivered to your home or office.

How does Uber Eats work?

You can download the app for free to your iPhone or Android and browse the menus of local participating restaurants. Adding items to your order is as simple as swiping them into your cart. You then pay for the order using your Uber account — a booking fee of $5 or less is typically included in the final price.

Once you’ve paid for the order, you can use the app to track it. The app will give you notices when your food is being prepared and when it’s picked up. Once an Uber Eats delivery driver picks up your order, the app will display a grip map between the restaurant and your address using the GPS in the driver’s phone. This will show you how close the order is to your location and an updated estimated time of arrival.

No. Although there are 20 McDonald’s in the Long Island area alone, there’s currently not a deal in place between McDonald’s and Uber Eats.

Can I still order from a restaurant if I have a food allergy?

Yes, if you need a food item modified or an ingredient removed because of a food allergy, use the “Special Instructions” field near the end of the ordering process to let the restaurant know that you have a food allergy. Uber Eats asks all of its partner restaurants to call customers if they cannot satisfy the requests in the special instructions field.

If your allergy is severe of life-threatening, it’s a good idea to call the restaurant before ordering to speak to someone with knowledge of how the food is prepared to see if the restaurant can accommodate your requests.
