The Mandalorian is one of Disney’s crown jewels and is an exclusive for the launch of new streaming service Disney+. The Mandalorian is a spinoff of Star Wars and new episodes will be released weekly.
It’s set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. For those who may need assistance placing that on the Star Wars timeline, it’s seven years after the Return of the Jedi. Season 2 of The Mandalorian premieres on Disney+ 30 October 2020.
The Mandalorian is exclusive to Disney+. There’s simply no other way around it. If you want to watch, you have to get Disney+. For those hoping to watch The Mandalorian, Disney+ no longer offers a free trial so you’ll have to sign up to watch.
Disney+ is available on a heap of devices. Disney+ is compatible with iOS and Android devices, PCs, laptops, Macs, Apple TV, Chromecast, Android TV, LG and Samsung smart TVs, Amazon Firestick, PS4 and Xbox One. So with a list that long, you should hopefully have a gadget that suits.
There’s no need to worry if you begin watching and decide it isn’t your cup of tea. Cancelling Disney+ is extremely easy. You can find a step-by-step breakdown of the process with photos in our guide.
Otherwise, if you do decide that you’re enjoying your experience with Disney+, you’ve got two options to continue watching. First off is the monthly bill option, which is identical to every other streaming service.
A monthly subscription will cost you €6.99 per month. Your other choice is a steeper upfront payment but a cheaper long-term deal. Yearly subscriptions to Disney+ take a little more commitment, but can be purchased for €69.99.
We get it – why would anyone want to sign a year-long subscription? Everybody wants freedom these days, especially with streaming services. You do have to consider that Disney owns its entire library, so there should only ever be titles added to the existing 900+ movies and TV shows.
Then there’s also the point that Disney has a lot of exclusive upcoming titles that are slated for 2020. This list includes two seperate series for Obi-Wan Kenobi and Cassian Andor, plus now Jedi Temple Challenge.
Episodes of The Mandalorian are surprisingly short for a sci-fi drama. Their runtime varies between 31 and 46 minutes. They’re even shorter if you subtract the credits and recaps of what went down in previous episodes.
There are 8 episodes in season 1 and according to Bingeclock, it will take you 5 hours and 23 minutes to watch them all (again).
The Mandalorian takes place five years after the fall of the Empire and kicks off with the titular character, a bounty hunter, accepting a mysterious gig that involves him locating a vague target and bringing said target alive to The Client.
By the end of the pilot, he discovers that the bounty is none other than Baby Yoda, a big-eared infant creature known as The Child who is 50 years old and can already use The Force, though it seems to drain it of energy.
Mando brings The Child to The Client, but has second thoughts about leaving the innocent baby in the hands of dangerous Imperials. So he rescues Baby Yoda and the two are on the run, Mando understanding that The Child is better off under his protection.
Plenty of fast friendship, conflict, hostage situations and cool fight scenes follow. In the season finale, we see Mando’s face for the first time and learn that his real name is Din Djarin. He and his allies go to the lair of the Mandalorian clan where they catch up with the Armorer, the leader of a tribe of Mandalorian warriors.
Upon seeing Baby Yoda, the Armorer tells Mando that a group of extinct warriors had similar abilities as The Child – the Jedi – and that he has to reunite the creature with its own kind.
Too bad that Galactic Empire officer Moff Gideon, the Big Bad of season 1, has other plans. The finale ends with him wielding a Darksaber, an ancient weapon forged by a Mandalorian Jedi. The good guys may have won for now, but they’ll have to face many bumps ahead as they look for Baby Yoda’s home planet.
