How does Uber Eats work?

Uber Eats allows you to purchase takeout food from local restaurants and have it delivered to you. Here’s how to use the service via the mobile phone app or website:

  • Enter your physical address
  • Browse menus of area restaurants
  • Swipe items to add them to your cart
  • Pay for the order digitally using your Uber account — a $4.99 fee is added to all orders
  • Use the app to track the delivery status

Why is there a busy fee on some restaurants?

A busy fee is added on to a certain area when there are more customers using the Uber Eats app than there are drivers on the road. The fee is dynamic and returns to normal when the number of drivers and customers level out.

How do I let a restaurant know I have food allergies?

When completing your order on the Uber Eats app, you can use the “Special Instructions” field to alert a restaurant of food allergies and ask to either modify your order or remove an ingredient. Uber Eats asks its partner restaurants to call customers who make special requests if they’re not able to complete them.

To be on the safe side, you should call the restaurant yourself before ordering to discuss how the food is prepared and if ingredients can be substituted or removed.
