Netflix receives eight Golden Globe nods

Ryan Brinks 12 December 2017 NEWS

Streaming's Netflix vies for most Golden Globe nominations

The streaming services claimed more nominations for the Golden Globes than all but one other service.

Video streaming giant Netflix received nine Golden Globe nods in 2017, edging out cable leader FX’s eight and second only to HBO, which was awarded 12 nominations. Fellow streaming services Amazon and Hulu both claimed three nominations, while NBC led all broadcast networks with five.

The nominations provide further evidence of streaming’s rapid ascension and embrace by viewers across the country, though cable channels continue to hold a sizable grasp on America’s TV audience.

Traditional cable channels are increasingly switching their content over to streaming platforms too. Examples include HBO GO, USA NOW and Starz Play. The shifting of alliances is clearest with young adults, who vastly prefer online streaming.
