Nexus is a decentralised cryptocurrency project designed to provide fast and secure transactions. By developing its own 3-dimensional blockchain that implements 3 consensus channels, Nexus aims to allow users to quickly and privately transfer value. Nexus is one of the earlier cryptocurrency projects, beginning development in 2014.
Nexus’ 3-dimensional blockchain comprises 3 separate, yet integrated consensus mechanisms. The first is proof-of-work, which lets users mine Nexus tokens to validate transactions on the network through dense prime clusters. The second method is known as Hashcash, which is similar to Bitcoin’s algorithm, just with much larger block sizes. Finally, Nexus also uses proof-of-holding protocols to secure the network, which is essentially the same as a proof-of-stake mechanism, which can be found on popular cryptocurrencies like Ethereum. The Nexus project underwent a major upgrade in 2018, implementing the Tritium Protocol into its blockchain. This formed a part of a 7-layer software stack intending to improve user accessibility, adoption and scalability – issues faced by a large number of cryptocurrencies.
What makes Nexus truly unique is how it uses resources from space – satellites – as a key driver in the project. The blockchain has partnered with Vector to create a satellite network of nodes that are used to host the Nexus server and any decentralised applications built atop the framework.
NXS tokens are the native token of the Nexus network and are used for transactions, governance, deploying dApps (as well as NFTs) and securing the blockchain via staking.
