DERO is the native cryptocurrency of Dero, a layer-1 blockchain built for the deployment of decentralised applications based on private smart contracts. In addition to a focus on privacy, Dero is touted to be the world’s first protocol that brings together the capabilities of a Proof-of-Work (PoW) blockchain and a DAG (Direct Acrylic Graph) based architecture. As a result, the protocol is immune to 51% attacks and double-spend transactions.
According to the official whitepaper, the protocol aims to offer an alternative to blockchains such as Ethereum, NEO, and Stellar, while drawing from privacy-focused protocols such as Monero and Zcash. In addition to the privacy-focused blockchain, the protocol is accompanied by DERO its native privacy-focused cryptocurrency. This combination means that decentralised application developers can use the protocol to build, while investors can utilise the protocol to send anonymous transactions. The ecosystem features a transaction module that allows for an extremely high level of anonymity, putting the platform’s native cryptocurrency DERO on par with a host of other privacy-oriented cryptocurrencies.
