Love Beauty and Planet hair and skincare review
Creating a cleaner world, one mane at a time.
Vegan, cruelty-free and packaged in bottles made of post-consumer recycled plastic, Love Beauty and Planet products claim to beautify you as well as the earth.
Available at Target, the line’s packed with hair-healthy ingredients like coconut water, murumuru butter and natural nut oils. To boot: Each product’s under $10.
Our editors tried the brand’s shampoos, conditioners and hair spray to see if they lived up to the claims.
Case study: Jennifer's experience
I’ll be the first to admit my haircare routine is as basic as it gets. I normally use a purple toning shampoo daily, and then occasionally throw some conditioner on my hair if I plan on blow-drying and straightening it. Otherwise, I do the bare minimum.
As a beauty novice, I’d never even heard of a shampoo and conditioner bar until Love Beauty and Planet sent its Coconut Water Shampoo + Conditioner Bar to our office. I was skeptical going into it — I didn’t think a bar of soap would be able to get the lather and creaminess I was used to with a traditional shampoo.
I’ve since tossed my traditional shampoo and conditioner in favor of this simple bar of soap. Oh, and the best part? I can get it for less than $5 at Target.
Case study: Katia's experience
I’ve been slowly but surely switching to a toxin-free beauty routine, so I was impressed with Love Beauty and Planet’s ingredient lists. I’m also super low-maintenance when it comes to my hair, so I wanted to see if the Sulfate-Free Murumuru Butter & Rose Shampoo and Conditioner set could freshen, hydrate and smooth my hair so I could wash and go.
The shampoo was great, and I especially liked the conditioner — it didn’t weigh down my thick hair, and it left my locks with a shiny finish.
I don’t use hairspray often, but the Coconut Milk and White Jasmine Medium Hold and Volume Hair Spray caught my attention for one reason: It’s a liquid! Thanks to the coconut milk, it smells like a tropical vacation, and it helped tame my wavy hair in the summer heat and humidity.
Case study: Sarah's experience
I’m not much of a “lotion person” because a lot of products have left my skin feeling a bit greasy, and I’m pretty particular about scents I like. I was excited to try Love Beauty and Planet lotions, however, because of the company’s commitment to the environment and their ethically-sourced ingredients. Buying sustainable products is the least I can do as a consumer to help our planet.
First, I tried Love Beauty and Planet body lotion and lathered up my arms and legs. I was pleasantly surprised to find the lotion absorbed quite nicely, and it left my skin feeling soft and refreshed.
I preferred the coconut water and mimosa flower scent of the Love Beauty And Planet Hand Lotion. That said, it made my hands a bit sticky when first applied. It took a few minutes for it to fully absorb and give my hands that soft and smooth feeling.
Overall, Love Beauty and Planet lotions feel good for my skin, the environment and my wallet — all under $10. However, I’d like to experiment with more Love Beauty and Planet products to find a scent that works for me.
Overall, the Love Beauty and Planet products were a hit! Our editors found the hair products freshened up their strands and added bounce and shine. And the lotions were hydrating, though the scents may not be for everyone.
Our editors were also pleased with the line’s price point and availability at their local Target stores and online.
