Liberty National scores points for its network of local agents that know the ins out outs of insurance laws in their states, and for offering accident policies. Though it’s backed by financial strength, the insurer could be more transparent about its rates and the coverage it offers.
Liberty National sells life insurance through a network of local, state-licensed professionals. It offers term and whole life policies, as well as accident insurance.
The insurer isn’t transparent about its riders on the site, but it does mention a waiver-of-premium rider, which allows you to waive your premiums if you suffer a disability, critical illness or injury.
The premiums vary between states, products and rate classes, with the best rates reserved for young, healthy non-smokers. The insurer doesn’t disclose its rates online, so you’ll need to contact a local agent to get an idea of how much you’ll pay.
Liberty National has been accredited with the Better Business Bureau since 1952, and has an A+ rating for its customer service and interaction. From customers, it’s earned two stars based on 19 reviews, and most of the complaints relate to group life insurance. Interestingly, many of the reviews are from agents and employees. Speaking of complaints, the BBB has recorded 38 in the last three years, which is fairly low for a life insurance company.

Once your policy has been approved, create an online account on Liberty National’s eService Center to review your policy, update your details, and make online payments.
Liberty National Life Insurance Company is a subsidiary of the Torchmark Corporation and has been in the biz since 1900. Headquartered in McKinney, Texas, it specializes in life insurance and supplemental health insurance for employers and individuals. It operates via a network of licensed agents throughout the US.
