What is Leesa?

Leesa Sleep was founded by strategy consultant-turned-entrepreneur David Wolfe and Jamie Diamonstein, who worked for mattress manufacturer Paramount Sleep for more than 20 years. Needless to say, they know a thing or two about mattresses. The idea behind starting their own made-in-the-USA mattress brand in 2014 centered on stepping away from the retail setting and joining the likes of Casper and other bed-in-a-box business models. That said, Leesa does have two physical locations if you really want to feel its products before buying — one in New York City and another in Virginia Beach.

What can I buy at Leesa?

  • Leesa foam mattress. The Leesa mattress is a 10-inch foam mattress with a built-in Avena cooling layer on top. Although it comes in just one firmness level, the folks at Leesa say that this mattress is designed to conform to all body types and sleep positions.
  • Sapira hybrid mattress. If you’re not sure that foam is right for you, you might want to check out the Sapira mattress. This is Leesa’s hybrid mattress, consisting of 11 inches of foam and spring coils. The Sapira also comes with Avena cooling technology and has enhanced edge support.
  • Pillows, sheets and blankets. Update your entire bedroom set with Leesa foam pillows and luxurious sheets and blankets made out of the same comfy material as the Leesa mattress cover.
  • Bed frame and foundation. Need a sturdy spot to put your mattress? Leesa has a bed frame and foundation for that.

Payment options

Leesa accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, JCB and PayPal. If you’d rather make monthly payments on your new mattress, you can choose its financing option by selecting either PayPal Credit or Affirm at checkout. With Affirm, you’ll get 0% APR financing for six, 12 or 18 months. However, you can not use any promotions, offers or discounts if financing through Affirm.

There are a couple requirements you’ll have to meet in order to use Affirm financing:

  • Be 18 or older, or 19 in Alabama
  • Have a valid US address that is not located in Iowa or West Virginia
  • Have a valid US mobile number with SMS capabilities

Shipping costs

How can I track my order?

When your order ships, you should receive an email shipping confirmation and a UPS tracking number to track your order. If you still have questions, contact Leesa customer support at 844-335-3372 or support@leesa.com.

What’s Leesa’s return policy?

Leesa understands it can take a bit to get used to a new mattress, so the company asks that you give it a test run for at least 30 days. But you have a full 100 days to decide if it’s right for you. In the event that you don’t like your Leesa mattress, let customer support know and they’ll arrange for a pick-up at no cost to you. For customers in Alaska and Hawaii, there is a $100 fee for mattress returns.

If you bought a Leesa pillow or blanket, returns are still free, but you’ll need to decide if you want to keep it within 30 days. To return these items, contact customer support at 844-335-3372 or support@leesa.com for a prepaid return shipping label. Then just drop off your return package at your local UPS store.

When’s the next sale?

Like lots of other mattress brands, Leesa usually runs special sales during holidays like President’s Day, Memorial Day and Labor Day. Even if you miss the exact date, you might still be able to snag a deal during an extended sale that sometimes lasts a full week after the actual holiday. Be on the lookout for free pillow giveaways with mattress orders, too.

Leesa mattresses are now also available for sale at Amazon.com, PotteryBarn.com and WestElm.com, so you might be able to score a special offer when you shop there.

What sets this brand apart?

One of the neat things about Leesa is that it’s really into giving back. The Virginia-based mattress company does this in a couple of ways. For one, all active duty military, retirees, veterans, military spouses and family members, first responders, teachers and students get a 12.5% discount on every order.

Leesa also gives back to the community and the earth in a few distinct ways. For every 10 mattresses it sells, Leesa donates a mattress to 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations that help homeless men, women and children. So far, Leesa has donated over 23,000 mattresses to those in need. The company is also a proud partner of the Arbor Day Foundation, planting one tree for every mattress it sells.

What do people really say about Leesa?

For the most part, customers are happy with the quality of Leesa mattresses at a competitive price point. Lots of online reviews claim that switching to a Leesa or Sapira mattress helped with back pain and that these mattresses seem to be a bit softer than other options out there. Reviewers also note that Leesa mattresses can be a good fit for couples who have a hard time choosing a bed that matches both of their preferences.

There are much fewer negative reviews than there are positive ones, but there are still some nevertheless. A few of the biggest problems that online reviewers point out involve the mattress sleeping hot, despite the top cooling layer, and lack of edge support on the Leesa version (if this is very important to you, the Sapira might be a better choice).

Lots of reviewers, including both positive and negative, say to give your Leesa mattress a month or two to break in before deciding whether or not you want to keep it because your impression of it will likely change.

How can I contact customer support?

You can speak to a real live human when you contact Leesa customer support Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern time and weekends from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Call toll-free at 844-335-3372, email support@leesa.com or live chat online.

What about social media?

You can connect with Leesa on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Pinterest. There’s not a ton of content on the brand’s YouTube channel, but this is a great place to start if you’re looking for a basic overview of some of the differences between the Leesa and Sapira and or want to watch a customer unbox his new mattress.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Made in the USA. All Leesa mattresses are proudly made right here in America.
  • Free shipping and returns. Shipping and returns are always free, whether you buy a mattress or a pillow.
  • 100-night trial. Test out your mattress for up to 100 nights before deciding if it’s a good fit for you.
  • Military, first responder, teacher and student discounts. Save even more with a generous 12.5% discount.

Cons

  • Only one firmness option. This is the nature of most foam mattresses, but some online reviewers found Leesa too firm.
  • Mattress recycle fee in some states. If you live in California, Connecticut or Rhode Island, you’ll be charged a small mattress recycle fee at checkout.

Bottom line

Whether you’re shopping for a foam or hybrid mattress, Leesa is worth a look. This online mattress brand offers two high-quality, made-in-America options, both at competitive prices. Its website can be a little confusing to navigate, though, so it can help to know what you’re looking for before browsing.
