What is Klimadao?
KlimaDAO is a decentralized autonomous organisation (DAO) developed for the sole purpose of fighting climate exchange and disrupting the increase in carbon emissions. Built using the Polygon network, by tokenising carbon emissions and leveraging a pioneering bonding mechanism inspired by the OlympusDAO protocol, KlimaDAO has created an open and decentralized market for carbon.
According to the KlimaDAO website, the project helps to improve the liquidity and transparency of the carbon market. To achieve this, KlimaDAO developed the KLIMA token, which is pegged to 1 tonne of verifiable carbon offsets. As the token is backed by real-world carbon-reducing assets, anyone wishing to invest in carbon can do so by using the KLIMA token. Alongside offering users the chance to access and support carbon offsetting projects, KilmaDAO also hopes to help low-carbon and carbon-removal projects become much more profitable and, therefore, more sustainable. Although KLIMA can be acquired from some exchanges, the platform’s OlympusDAO inspired bonding mechanism allows users to deposit verified carbon-based tokens, such as BCT and MCO2, and acquire KLIMA tokens at a discounted rate. The bonding mechanism allows the KlimaDAO protocol to continually add more carbon offsets while also incentivising KLIMA adoption. To further enhance the attractiveness of the token and encourage long term holders, KLIMA can also be staked within the ecosystem for weekly rewards. Each token also entitles the holder to vote within the Klima DAO, which controls the monetary policy of the Klima ecosystem.
