The card’s big value lay in the unusual signup bonus and rewards structure. For every 200 points you earn with the card, you’ll receive a $10 JCPenney Rewards certificate. When you break this down, the reward rate actually comes out to about 5%.
The signup bonus is a coupon that offers between 5% and 20% off of your purchases for a full 24 hours. Yes, you can use this coupon as much as you like within that 24 hour period.
But watch out for the card’s high purchase APR. Interest payments could wipe out your rewards if you don’t pay off your balance each month. Plus, this card offers almost no value if you don’t shop at JCPenney, so if you JCPenney is just one of your many shopping stops, you might be better off with a general rewards card.

What to watch out for
- Valid only at JCPenney stores.
Because this card isn’t associated with a card network like Visa or Mastercard, you can’t use it with merchants outside the JCPenney network.
- High APR.
No matter your credit score, there’s just one purchase APR for the JCPenney credit card: 25.99% fixed. If you plan on carrying a balance, consider a card with a lower APR.

How point redemptions work
The card’s redemption rate makes earning 1 point per dollar better than it might seem.
You’ll receive a $10 JCPenney Rewards certificate for every 200 points earned. That means you’ll get $10 in rewards for every $200 spent with your JCPenney credit card. This is a 5% rewards rate, which is excellent.
This card offers excellent rewards on JCPenney purchases. Consider it if you’re a frequent shopper at the retailer. Otherwise, you may want to consider a leading cashback card with no annual fee.
