What features does Twitch offer?

Twitch offers a plethora of live streaming experiences from community members all around the world, connecting streamers through shared interests and passions.

Twitch is a streaming service with roots in the gaming industry. It is home to esports professionals and tournaments that you can stream live at any time of the day. Although Twitch has recently undergone a redesign, it continues to hold a place in the hearts of gamers around the world.

Each live stream with Twitch includes a chat room intended to immerse viewers within the experience. Twitch claims that community interaction is what makes it unique. Although chat is available on every video, creators have the ability to modify what comments appear on their videos.

Twitch extension

Twitch was originally created with the gaming community in mind and in that same fashion, allows its members to engage with each other further by creating the opportunity to be a developer as well as a member. Any member of Twitch has the opportunity to build interactive extensions to channels.

Community meetups

Twitch hosts opportunities for members to meet up and grow their friendships in real life (IRL). Although twitch is a global streaming service, there are 40+ cities around the world where it generally hosts events including cities in the U.S and Australia.

What devices is Twitch compatible with?

You can watch Twitch from most devices as long as you have a decent internet connection.

  • Smart TV devices

Along with their traditional app for desktop and mobile devices, Twitch also offers a beta version called Twitch Studio that is meant to make streaming directly from the app easier as well as a karaoke app called Twitch Sings specifically designed for the singing community.

How much does Twitch cost?

Twitch is completely free unless you opt for the upgraded Turbo plan for $8.99 a month or combine your Twitch and Amazon Prime account for $12.99 a month.

If you opt for the Prime membership, then you’ll receive a free 7-day trial that you have the ability to cancel at any time within that time frame.

Is Twitch Prime worth it?

Paying $12.99 a month to combine the features of an Amazon Prime account with a Twitch account might be worth it if you’re an avid streamer of both live Twitch experiences as well as TV shows and movies.

You receive free games and in-game loot every month you hold a Prime subscription with Twitch with free content changing every month. Past offers have included:

  • Borderlands 3
  • World of Tanks
  • Raid: Shadow Legends
  • Witcheye
  • Ape Out

The only thing is that unless you purchase a Twitch Turbo subscription along with the Prime subscription, you’ll have to endure the same ads as Twitch’s free subscription.

What can I watch with Twitch?

Although Twitch is an esport hub, it recently went through a brand design welcoming community members of all backgrounds. More than a streaming service to watch your favorite gaming pros, it has grown into a great place to watch all sorts of unique live content including sports games, weddings, and cooking shows.

As a Twitch streamer, you have access to countless videos created by other members, including live streams from:

  • Bounty hunters
  • Chess masters
  • Amateur cooks
  • Gamers
  • Politicians

Twitch is about the community of live streamers. Whether it be President Trump’s latest speech or Thursday Night Football, there’s a live experience happening every moment.

How much data does Twitch use?

In order to stream Twitch efficiently, it’s recommended that you stream at least 720p.

If you’re interested in streaming fast-paced games, then you’ll need a device that can handle streaming at 900p.

If you’re looking for a way to share your interests with others and become a part of a community, then Twitch is a good choice for you. The free aspect of it makes it appealing even as a casual streamer or creator. If you’re interested in streaming TV shows and movies, then Twitch isn’t the right service for you unless you opt for the Prime subscription which combines the streaming features of Amazon Prime and Twitch. Overall, it’s a great way to stream content and become a part of a community that shares similar interests without having to sign into a long-term contract or plan. It’s not so great to binge watch TV, unless you enjoy binge watching esports.
