Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Ad free. Watch hours of content without commercial interruption.
  • Exclusive content for a black audience. Finally a streaming service that features BET movies, sitcoms, plays and specials.

Cons

  • Online only. There’s no way to download and watch content offline.
  • Limited streaming. The way you subscribe to the $9.99 BET+ service determines the devices you can watch with.

What features does BET+ offer?

To add to the viewing experience, BET+ offers a few other features for its subscribers.

Casting

Use a compatible iOS or Android mobile device to project programs onto your Google Chromecast. Or use the AirPlay option to cast from your iOS device onto your Apple TV.

Syncing

Similar to a feature Netflix offers, the BET+ video player saves your place in a program. You can stop and start a TV show or movie as often as you’d like and never lose your place.

What devices is BET+ compatible with?

How you sign up determines the devices you can stream on. Below are the six ways you can sign up for BET+ and the ways you can stream on each.

iOS App Store

  • iOS iPhones and iPads

Google Play

  • Android phones and tablets

Amazon App Store

  • Fire TV game controller
  • Fire TV stick and voice remote

How much does BET+ cost?

A subscription to BET+ is $9.99 a month across all platforms.

It differentiates between its app and channels it’s available on. If you download the app for $9.99, you won’t get access through Amazon Prime Video or Apple TV. You have to purchase an additional subscription for $9.99.

This is unique for a streaming service. To make streaming more accessible across devices, most provide its app for free once you subscribe to its streaming service.

Free trial

BET+ offers a free 7-day trial for new subscribers. Cancel within 24-hours before the trial ends to avoid charges.

What can I watch with BET+?

In collaboration with Tyler Perry Studios, BET+ has a thorough collection of on-demand entertainment and lifestyle titles, including original Tyler Perry programs.

There are episodes from 100+ TV shows, including:

  • Bigger
  • Being Mary Jane
  • Rebel
  • The Oval
  • Dark Money
  • Sacrifice
  • First Wives Club

What Internet speeds does BET+ recommend?

While a specific Internet speed isn’t mentioned, BET+ recommends Wi-Fi, 3G or 4G connections to watch videos.

We found several complaints from subscribers about connectivity issues after downloading the app, even with a high Internet connection. Your experience with BET+ could vary.

Expert review

Though this isn’t a streaming service to replace your cable fix, it could serve as a solid supplement. For $9.99 a month, you can watch a selection of exclusive TV shows and movies focused on black culture. BET+ offers a 7-day trial to help you decide if you’re ready to commit. And depending on the way you choose to begin streaming, you’ll have a selection of devices to stream across.
