Remember Borat? The iconic comedy, which came out in 2006, starred Sacha Baron Cohen as the title character, a fictitious Kazakh journalist who travels through the United States to make a documentary featuring real-life interactions with Americans. Now, we’re finally getting a direct sequel.
Turns out, the new Borat was the first movie made during the COVID-19 shutdown, filmed in secret as soon as coronavirus shooting restrictions were eased. In even better news, you won’t have to wait too long to enjoy Baron Cohen’s hilarious shenanigans. Here’s everything you need to know about Borat Subsequent Moviefilm (aka Borat 2) in order to tune in.
The Borat sequel will be available to stream in Ireland from 23 October.
The movie will be exclusive to Amazon worldwide, which means that you need an Amazon Prime Video subscription to tune in. Prime Video is free with any Amazon Prime subscription, priced at €5.99 a month.
The cost includes access to the platform’s entire library of content, as well as additional perks like free shipping, early access to deals, free access to Amazon Music, free ebooks and more. Plus, new users get a 30-day free trial, so you can stream Borat Subsequent Moviefilm without reaching for your credit card.
After that, you might want to check out some excellent Prime Video TV shows or marathon the best movies on the platform.
Baron Cohen likes to maintain an air of mystery around his films, but based on the trailer, we know that the action follows Borat travelling to the US 14 years after the success of his 2006 gonzo documentary.
He plans to find a husband for his daughter and, at one point, has to quarantine with people who believe the Democrats are deadlier than coronavirus. He also wears several disguises along the way, including a Donald Trump costume. The trailer shows him crashing a rally as US Vice President Mike Pence watches on, confused.
As a result, we can safely assume that Borat 2 will tackle both the COVID-19 pandemic and the US elections. It will also show the actor doing what he does best – going undercover to get people to reveal their true selves with minimal provocation. Mark your calendars: Borat Subsequent Moviefilm is shaping up to be appointment viewing.
