Try hayu 30 days for free
Binge thousands of reality TV shows at the same time as the U.S.
There’s no disputing that Europeans (and the rest of the world) have an overwhelming love affair with what’s been dubbed “reality TV”. These shows promise an “unscripted” look at the lives and trials of everyone from the rich and famous to regular, unknown people eager to experience the spotlight.
While reality TV is a mainstay for free-to-air and Pay TV services, its popularity led to the arrival of a streaming service dedicated to the genre. hayu is available in most of Europe, the UK and Ireland, and offers over 6,000 episodes across tens of downloadable shows users can watch on the go.
What’s more, it offers same-day access to new episodes of popular shows as soon as they air in the US. That means no more waiting around for the latest episode of Keeping up with the Kardashians or Vanderpump Rules.
Because hayu only streams reality TV content, with no options for drama, sports or documentaries, its prices are cheaper than other streaming websites such as Netflix or Now TV.
hayu currently charges €5.99/month for its service in Ireland, with no lock-in contract. There’s also a 30-day free trial, which gives you one month to figure out if the service can satisfy your entertainment needs.
hayu is currently designed to be accessed via a dedicated iOS or Android app on your mobile device or on the web through a compatible browser. You will need at least iOS 10.0 or Android 4.4 (KitKat) to use the app on your smartphone or tablet.
For those who like their reality TV on the big screen, hayu does have an app for the 4th generation Apple TV, which offers support for high definition streaming of the latest reality shows.
The hayu app also supports streaming content over Chromecast, Fire TV or Airplay to the big screen. However, if you’ve downloaded an episode of Made in Chelsea, you’ll need to watch it on your device.
In the UK hayu also works with Roku and in Norway with the TV2 Sumo, but these aren’t offered in Ireland at the moment. You can subscribe to hayu with Now TV and use the Now TV stick to stream content on your television.
This service is 100% dedicated to the best and worst of reality television. From the Kardashians high life to every Real Housewive in every major city, you’ll find almost all of it on hayu. Follow the links below to find out more about what’s streaming on hayu.
Need a new show to binge watch or catch up on? Here’s the full list of shows on hayu.
hayu can deliver your daily dose of Kardashians in up to HD quality, depending on your internet connection. Like many streaming services, it uses adaptive streaming quality to adjust the quality of the stream based on the connection speed, as well as the device you are using to watch the service.
Unlike some other streaming services though, there’s no way to manually set the quality of your streams while watching on a mobile device, which is a potentially dangerous situation for users with low data allowances on their mobile plans.
hayu does offset this by offering the ability to download episodes to your mobile or tablet devices for offline viewing. Videos are available to download to your device in either SD, which is approximately a 300MB download, or HD, which is about 700MB.
You can download a maximum of 25 episodes at a time, and after that you must either delete an episode or wait 30 days for it to be removed from your download list to get more.
hayu offers a free 30-day trial for new users. This allows you to try out the features and see whether hayu offers shows that you like before purchasing a plan. As there are no contracts, if you end up not liking the content or the service, you can cancel at any time.
Q: Can I download shows for offline viewing?
A: Yes, both the hayu iOS and Android apps allow users to download up to 25 episodes to watch offline, in both standard definition and high definition quality.
Q: Can I watch in 4K?
A: Unfortunately, hayu does not support 4K content at this time.
Q: Can I watch hayu on my Mac?
A: hayu works on a Mac, so long as you’re running OSX 10.10 or above.
Q: Can I watch hayu on my PC?
A: Definitely. You’ll need to be running Windows 8.1 or above to access the service though.
Q: Can I watch episodes as they download?
A: Unfortunately, you need to wait for the entire episode to finish downloading before you can watch it on your mobile device.
Q: Can I download a whole season of a show to watch at once?
A: You can only download individual episodes on the hayu app. You can manually select up to 25 episodes from the same show, though it’s worth remembering that they expire in 30 days.
Q: What shows can I download?
A: Every show available on the hayu service is available for download.
Q: Can I watch hayu while on holiday?
A: If you signed up in an EU country where hayu is available (United Kingdom, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg), you can watch your home hayu service (ie the shows available in your country) in any other EU country. In other words, you will have access to all of the same shows you watch at home when you’re watching in another EU country.
Q: Can I watch multiple episodes at the same time on different devices?
A: No, only a single stream is permitted at a time.
