Frequently asked questions about Black Friday travel deals

Which Black Friday travel deals have launched early in previous years?

Just because Black Friday starts on a Friday, that doesn’t always mean the sales do too. We find each year that some big names drop both official and unofficial Black Friday deals up to a week or two in advance. Some of them from the previous Black Friday sales are:

  • Booking.com: Score hotels worldwide for up to 30% off regular rates.
  • Expedia: Save up to 40% off domestic hotels for stays
  • Contiki: Up to 30% off 2021 and 2022 tours worldwide, which you can secure with just a €100 deposit.
  • G Adventures: Get up to 21% off worldwide tours and secure them with just a $1 deposit. Available on more than 450 itineraries for departures until 2022.
  • Groupon: Save up to 75% on a range of Groupon deals, including day tours and experiences.
  • Ryanair: Up to 20% off flights – which start as low as £7.99 each way – and up to 40% off car hire.

What type of travel deals are available?

Anything and everything goes. Flights, hotels, cruises and tours are the most common travel items on the sales rack over Black Friday.

We’ve also seen travel insurance policies, experiences and day tours on sale over Cyber Weekend.

Which travel brands have Black Friday sales?

While the offers change every year, these brands have had Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales in the past. We recommend keeping an eye on them each year for their offers:

How long do the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales last?

Black Friday sales officially start at midnight and end at the close of business on Friday (26 November 2021). However, many companies extend their sales through the weekend (Cyber Weekend) and on to Monday (Cyber Monday) 29 Novemer 2021.

The sales might be around for a few days, but this doesn’t mean that the lowest prices or the best travel dates will still be available by Monday.

Additionally, not all companies extend their sales. If you’ve got your eye on a deal, it’s best to check when it ends to avoid missing out.

How do I find the best Black Friday travel deals?

  • Keep an eye on this page. We’ll be updating this space as often as possible throughout the Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend. Every time a new sale drops you’ll be the first to know right here.
  • Keep your dates and destinations flexible. While there are a lot of sales, not every destination on every date will necessarily be discounted. Keep an open mind on where and when to go to nab the best deal possible.
  • Start looking now. It’s not too early (or too late) to score a bargain. Look and book now because come tomorrow that travel deal might be gone.

What should I consider when booking travel during the coronavirus pandemic?

  • Travel restrictions. At the moment, travel around and out of Ireland is discouraged and paid accommodations are only meant to support essential service workers. This may change in the future, and many travel booking sites are planning for this. We’ve found many of the Black Friday travel deals have availability for a year – or more in some cases – and offer flexibility with your booking.
  • Book flexible deals. The situation changes constantly. To ensure your holiday goes as planned, look for flexible flights, accommodation and experiences. These let you change your travel dates or destinations without penalty.

Is it worth booking international flights during a pandemic?

Although travel is discouraged, this doesn’t stop airlines from dropping enviable sales to places far and wide on Black Friday.

Before you jump the gun and book that $1,000 flight to Australia, check if you can cancel or move your trip to a later date. This flexibility can give you peace of mind and save you money should borders remain closed by the time your trip comes around.

Are travel deals really better on Black Friday?

There’s no denying that Black Friday serves up some spectacular deals. Whether they’ll be better than sales you’ll find throughout the year or on Boxing Day is anyone’s guess.

In 2019, we saw a handful of travel companies better themselves for Boxing Day.

It’s up to you if you want to take a punt and wait until Boxing Day. Our advice? If you see a deal on Black Friday that hits the mark, get it or regret it.
