You can now use Ethereum to tip on Twitter; here’s how

Tip your favorite Twitter creators or get tips from other users for the content you provide.
In September of last year, Twitter allowed users to tip their favorite creators in Bitcoin. A few months later, the company allowed users to use and verify their NFTs as profile pictures — which are shown as hexagonal avatars instead of circles.
So it’s no surprise that recently Twitter announced users can tip creators using Ethereum (ETH).
This can be a good thing for both Twitter (TWTR) investors and for the entire crypto and NFT community, as it can help expand crypto adoption and provide more use cases for cryptocurrency holders.
Unfortunately, this feature is only available on mobile
If you’re looking to tip someone on Twitter via your desktop browser, forget it. This feature is limited to the Twitter app on your iOS or Android device.
To earn Ethereum from tips, you need to:
- Open your Twitter app.
- Edit your profile.
- Scroll to the bottom, select Tips. (See first screenshot.)
- Select Allow tips. (See second screenshot.)
- Add your Ethereum address.
To tip Twitter users:
- Visit the Twitter profile you want to tip.
- Select the money icon next to the message icon.
- Select the option and the amount you wish to tip.
You need an Ethereum wallet to use the tipping feature
Setting up an Ethereum wallet to store your coins is simple. But first, you have to choose a wallet type. You can use an exchange wallet like Coinbase, a browser and mobile app wallet like Metamask, or a hardware wallet like Ledger.
Check out our guide on Ethereum wallets to find the best one for you and to learn how to use it to enable Twitter’s tipping feature.
Buy Ethereum
Once you’ve set up your wallet, you need to buy Ethereum to tip other users. There are many ways to do this, but the best beginner-friendly option is to buy via a cryptocurrency exchange like Coinbase.
Steps to buying Ethereum are generally the same across exchanges. Here’s how it works:
- Create an account and verify your ID.
- Select a deposit method and deposit funds.
- Buy Ethereum with your funds.
- Withdraw your Ethereum using your wallet address.
