What is Horizen?

Horizen is a blockchain platform that focuses on scalable privacy. Launched in 2017, the project was first created as a hard fork of the Zcash project. It was originally called ZenCash. However, the project was rebranded in 2018 to Horizen. According to Horizen’s website, the project’s mission is to build a fair and inclusive ecosystem, where businesses can build their own blockchains utilizing the platform’s scalable sidechain technology and node network.

Each separate sidechain is connected to the central Horizen mainchain. The mainchain implements a Proof-of-Work (PoW) Equihash consensus mechanism, which enables faster confirmation times. The sidechains implement a Proof-of-Stake mechanism validated by Secure and Super Nodes.

ZEN is the native token of the Horizen ecosystem. ZEN tokens are distributed to miners on the mainchain and those that stake to secure the sidechains. 60% are rewarded to miners. 20% are split evenly between Secure Nodes and Super Nodes. The remaining 20% are placed into the Horizen Team Treasury.

Horizen (ZEN) is the 99th largest cryptocurrency in the world by market cap, valued at $1,097,943,184. The current price of Horizen is $95.05, which is -3.004% lower than yesterday. What to consider when buying Horizen

Horizen is an innovative project that's trying to break into the blockchain arena. Before purchasing any ZEN tokens, here are a few factors that investors should consider:
  • Privacy at the forefront: Horizen uses zero-knowledge proofs within its network, which makes its ZEN token untraceable and unwatchable. For those looking for complete privacy, this is very advantageous.
  • Scalability: Horizen has primarily focused on developing sidechain technology to allow anyone to develop dapps that link seamlessly to the Horizen mainchain. Sidechains ensure high scalability while relying on the benefits of the Horizen mainchain’s network of over 30,000 nodes. The Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCPT) technology allows users to send tokens quickly and efficiently between the Horizen mainchain and individual sidechains.
  • Supply: The total supply of tokens is capped at 21 million. Like Bitcoin, there is a periodic halving of block rewards. The first halving took place in December 2020. This halved block rewards from 12.5 ZEN to 6.25 ZEN.
Disclaimer: Cryptocurrencies, including Horizen, are speculative, complex and involve significant risks – they are highly volatile and sensitive to secondary activity.
