What is Harmony?

Harmony is a fast and open blockchain for decentralized applications. It aims to build a trustless and gas-efficient bridge that acts as an extension for Ethereum applications and assets. According to the founder Stephen Tse, the Harmony transactions attract 1,000 times lower fees than Ethereum. It is designed to be an open platform where the validator community owns the network governance. The Harmony platform is powered by the native ONE token. It can be used to pay for fees across the network, and also to reward users who stake the tokens to secure the Harmony blockchain. In the future, the ONE token will also be used for governance.

Harmony (ONE) is the 74th largest cryptocurrency in the world by market cap, valued at $1,816,844,023. The current price of Harmony is $0.171005, which is 0.016% lower than yesterday. What to consider when buying Harmony

Investing in altcoins, like ONE, comes with high benefits and risks, therefore it’s important to understand the key features before buying ONE. Here are some of the factors to consider:
  • Supply. The maximum supply of ONE tokens is capped at 12.6 billion, with a circulating supply of about 9.5 billion coins.
  • Use cases. You can use ONE token to pay transaction fees on the Harmony platform, as well as storage fees and gas fees.
  • Governance. As a ONE token holder you can participate in Harmony’s governance process.
  • Staking. You can stake ONE tokens as a delegator or a validator. If you wish to stake tokens without running a validator, ONE holders can delete their tokens to existing validators. As of June 2020 3.5 billion ONE tokens are staked.
  • Tokenomics. Initially Harmony launched with a dynamic inflation schedule. However, in April 2020 Harmony introduced a new economic model for its network. Under this new model the annual reward will remain the same at 441 million ONE tokens. Meanwhile transaction fees are burned, which means as the number of transactions on the Harmony platform increases, the fees burned per year would equal the 441 million annual reward.
Disclaimer: Cryptocurrencies, including Harmony, are speculative, complex and involve significant risks – they are highly volatile and sensitive to secondary activity. Performance is unpredictable and past performance of ONE is no guarantee of future performance. Consider your own circumstances, and obtain your own advice, before relying on this information. You should also verify the nature of any product or service (including its legal status and relevant regulatory requirements) and consult the relevant Regulators' websites before making any decision. Finder, or the author, may have holdings in the Harmony or any other cryptocurrency discussed.
