What can I buy from HBO?
HBO offers 2 main streaming options for its customers.
HBO Go is a service designed for people who already have HBO on their TVs and want to watch it on a different screen, like a laptop, tablet or smartphone.
HBO Now is for people who don’t have a cable subscription but still want to watch HBO shows and movies online.
Either service will give you access to hundreds of exclusive HBO shows and movies where ever you might be.

Case study: Ezra’s experience
HBO Go is one of the better, albeit more expensive, streaming services I’ve used. It offers all of HBO’s movies, shows and programs, which I can watch whenever I please. Much of the actual content from HBO is at the same level, if not superior, to that of Netflix and Hulu, with diverse content ranging from blockbuster films, to gripping television dramas, to engaging and comedic late-night shows. Unlike your basic Hulu subscription, I never have to sit through commercial breaks when I’m watching content.
Both the website and mobile app are easy to navigate. The top of the website’s homepage smartly displays a rotating banner of new movies and episodes that premiered in the past week, allowing easy access to everything new that aired. The search navigation pulls results fast, categorizing them accordingly as movies, documentaries, comedy, etc. All content can be streamed in crisp HD, and I’ve had few issues with video quality.
Pricing is the biggest flaw of the service. HBO Go is available only to those with an HBO cable subscription, to which the streaming service is a free add-on. However, cord cutters who use only streaming services can purchase the identical HBO Now, which provides all of HBO’s content for $15 a month. That cost is significantly higher than Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. But to stay up-to-date on Game of Thrones and Barry, it might be worth it.
What sets this brand apart?
HBO has shows that are unique to its network that won’t be available on other streaming services like Netflix or Hulu.
Pros and cons
- Exclusive programming. Watch movies and shows that aren’t available elsewhere.
- Free 30 day trial. You can try the service for a month to see if it’s right for you.
- More expensive than other services. An HBO Now subscription costs more than Hulu or Netflix.
If you’re burned out on the shows available from other online streaming services, try streaming HBO. You’ll appreciate the wide variety of quality shows and movies available.
