Haven’t heard of Singles’ Day before?

You’re not alone. Singles’ Day is only really a celebration in China, but that doesn’t stop the rest of the world from being able to take advantage of the deals on offer.

In case you were wondering how significant Singles’ Day actually is, it’s worth nothing this is the largest online shopping day in the world. Alibaba alone generated $14.3 billion in revenue last year – to put that in perspective, Alibaba generated more revenue on Singles’ Day than all of the combined revenue of Black Friday.

Originally Singles’ Day was an entertaining festival for young Chinese people to celebrate that they were proud to be single. Society has plenty of days to celebrate partnerships and family like Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day, and Singles’ Day is supposed to be the unattached’s antidote to these – a day devoted to “treat yo’self”. 11 November was a deliberate choice of date, the 11.11 resembling single individuals.

Today, this celebration is primarily seen as a shopping event where retailers come together to offer top deals and discounts for the day in an effort for to make it more affordable for young singles to buy the things they’ve always wanted.

The timing of this shopping event could not be better, with many savvy shoppers already trying to get on top of their Christmas shopping. You can see a list of the top Singles’ Day deals on the main sales page.
