FLUX is the native cryptocurrency of the Flux protocol. The Flux protocol is a decentralised cloud computing system that offers blockchain-as-a-service (BaaS) capabilities and allows for the deployment of decentralised applications (dApps). By offering a complete suite of blockchain infrastructure, the protocol is focused on improving the rate at which blockchain adoption occurs. According to the official whitepaper, Flux is completely open-source and can, therefore, be utilised by independent devs seamlessly. The protocol wants to position itself as the perfect decentralised alternative to widely popular platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud.
Flux’s protocol is composed of the Flux blockchain, FluxOS, FluxNodes, and the FLUX cryptocurrency coin. The Flux blockchain is the foundation on which all dApps are built. FluxOS is then the interface that is used by developers to connect with the blockchain. The Flux chain remains secure thanks to a network of FluxNodes, which are incentivised by the native cryptocurrency. The network of FluxNodes means that all dApps built within the ecosystem are accessible to all users at all times. There are 3 tiers of FluxNode operators: Cumulus, Nimbus, and Stratus. Each tier requires a varying level of FLUX collateral and increasingly higher hardware requirements. Unlike other blockchains which allow for low-powered nodes, each node within the Flux network is enterprise-grade. Although this means better hardware requirements are needed it means that the raw processing power the blockchain can offer is far greater. As described above, the FLUX token is an integral part of the Flux ecosystem. The token provides an incentive to FluxNodes, allows for governance on-chain, and allows users to stake and support the protocol.
