Types of BOC credit cards

BOC credit cards cover diverse benefits and features, with credit cards that offer special travel privileges and cards that reward you for everyday transactions. There is also a generous assortment of co-branded cards to choose from each with specific benefits that could lead to significant savings.

    • Rewards cards

To enjoy maximum rewards on online spending, apply for the BOC i-card. This card offers 10 X Reward Gift Points when you buy goods or services online and for transactions in designated spending categories such as electronic appliances, supermarkets and cinemas. Mastercard contactless payments also qualify for the 10 X earnings boost. Your BOC i-card is also enrolled in the Mastercard Traveller Rewards Program and you can exchange your points to airmiles.

    • Platinum cards

A BOC Platinum Visa or Mastercard brings special privileges, including access to a Global Concierge Service and exclusive discounts.

    • Premium cards

You have access to a range of luxurious benefits and discounts with one of the premium BOC credit cards. A BOC Visa Infinite Card awards 6 X reward gift points on overseas spending. If you meet its spending requirement, you can get extra 6 X reward gift points on dining and overseas spending. Successfully apply for a BOC World Mastercard and you will enjoy 5 X reward gift points on spending and dining, while the BOC CUP Dual Currency Diamond Card includes discounts on airport limousine transfers and access to LoungeKey in selected airports.

    • Travel cards

Earn large cash rebates on overseas transactions with the BOC Travel Rewards Visa Signature Card. You can earn 8% in cash rebates on your each overseas spending over HK$500 while enjoying travel privileges and a concierge service. As a Visa Signature credit card you will also enjoy a range of premium Visa benefits.

    • Dual currency cards

If you regularly make card payments in mainland China consider the BOC CUP Dual Currency Platinum Card. Any transactions you make in mainland China will be billed to your account in renminbi, so you save on currency conversion fees and simply repay the card in renminbi.

    • Co-branded cards

Bank of China has partnered with a wide range of businesses and organisations to offer co-branded credit cards. Each co-branded card comes with specific benefits including discounts and privileges. For example, the BOC Hospital Authority Credit Card for HKHA’s members and executives include 2X Gift Points for Hospital Authority Staff Co-Op Shop.

    • Commercial cards

Companies can facilitate payments and expense management with the BOC Commercial Platinum Card. This card includes Visa Commercial Offers as well as access to unlimited selected airport lounges. Each Hong Kong dollar of eligible spending on the card qualifies for Gift Points so you can enjoy rewards just by paying for everyday company expenses.

What benefits can I get with a BOC credit card?

  • Interest-free instalment plans

    Repay domestic and overseas transactions over a period of up to 36 months without paying any interest charges when you take advantage of BOC’s Credit Card Statement Instalment Plan. You will be charged a personalised monthly handling fee for the transaction. Existing card holders can apply by simply phoning BOC, you do not need to supply any documentation or proof of income.

  • Balance transfer service

    You can use your BOC credit card to consolidate balances on high-interest credit cards. Simply apply online or by phone or fax and BOC will pay a credit card balance with another bank using your BOC credit limit. At the time of writing, you can enjoy a 56-day interest-free period on any balance transfers.

  • Gift Point programme

    For every Hong Kong dollar of eligible credit card spend you will earn a Gift Point with BOC. Gift points can be exchanged for a range of vouchers on goods and services or you can choose to exchange points for Asia Miles.

  • Mobile payments

    Link your BOC credit card with your mobile phone for easy and convenient payments. BOC credit cards support Apple Pay and Google Pay so you can pay at millions of contactless terminals using your phone, without the need to carry your credit card with you.

  • Enrol additional card holders

    Your friends and family can share your BOC credit card benefits. Simply apply for additional card holders via the additional card holder form. Additional card holders will also benefit from Gift Point earnings rates and other discounts and privileges.

How can I apply for a BOC credit card?

Consider your personal credit card requirements, and think about which BOC credit card benefits will provide the greatest value to you. The range of cards on offer by BOC is extensive, so carefully compare the rebates and privileges of each card. You can apply for the card of your choice by clicking the green “Go to Site” button.

Eligibility requirements

  • Age. The main credit card applicant needs to be 18 or older when applying. You can apply for a supplementary card for any family member over the age of 16.
  • Invitation only cards. The BOC Visa Infinite card and the BOC Wealth Management Visa Infinite card are offered on an invitation-only basis. You cannot directly apply for either of these cards.
  • Credit history. You need to have a good credit history to successfully apply for a BOC credit card. BOC will also review your existing debt levels and your ability to repay when they review your application, and when deciding on your credit limit.

Necessary documents and information

  • Proof of identification. Once you’ve completed the application form you will be required to upload proof of identification, for example your Hong Kong ID and a valid passport (for non-permanent residents). Keep your HKID number or passport number ready when you’re applying.
  • Income details. You’ll need to supply full information on the source of your income, including your employer’s details and the number of years you have been in service.
  • Details on current loans: If you have any existing loans or credit agreements you have to declare the total amount outstanding on the application form. This also includes any loans you’ve applied for and which are still pending.
  • Residency. BOC’s application form will request full details of your current place of living, including your address and how long you’ve lived there.
  • Student applicants. If you’re applying for a student card you’ll be requested to supply details of the course you have enrolled in as well as your student ID or year of graduation. BOC will also request the details of your parents on the application form.
